Equipment Type: Flash
Equipment Brand: Canon
Equipment Model: Speedlite 420EX
Price (S$): stated below
Description:
Canon Speedlite 420EX
As shown from image above, flash in MINT condition. This is a very mint set, used only a couple of times.
The 420EX is one of the cheapest canon TTL flashes around that can still allow tilt and swivel in order to point the flash in every possible direction in cases where creative uses of flash, such as bouncing off ceiling or wall, are required. For this price you can probably get a new 270EX at most, but that is a lower end series of flash with limited ways of usage, GN number and max output is possibly lower as well. There is a good reason why the 420EX despite being an old model, still commands way higher resale value than the crap from 3rd parties such as NISSIN...
Price aside, the 420EX is also relatively light and compact, making it light on both the wallet and back, good to carry around as a spare or for trips without a specific need for flash. 420EX is also on Canon's series of wireless flashes and can work with a master control device such as 550EX, 580EX, 580EXII or canon's ST-E2. Note that the new in built wireless flash commander in 7D works perfectly with this flash unit.
Higher end models such as 580EX and 580EX mark2 are definitely nice to have, if not for the fact that they cost alot more and weight more as well, making them less desired for spare flashes or travelling. But unless you are an event photographer and need super fast recharging time by connecting to a battery pack, or need the master function for the wireless, otherwise the 580EX's advantages are limited as well.
Third party flash... well they are built to be budget, thus have limited durability and lifetime for sure. QC is also a factor to beware of. With these in mind, it is easy to see how the 420EX is the best choice around for a budget flash.
Selling for $250.
