Canon S5 IS is suitable for user whom had intention to switch over to DSLR as it has many similar features of a DSLR, i.e. AP, TV, Manual mode. However it is lighter than a DSLR in terms of weight as compared to a DSLR with a zoom lens.
It is much better than a normal DSLR as it has a tilt able LCD screen which allows the user to shoot at low or high angle.
