would you rather buy..this or that?

Hi, in general, what would be most useful in every day photography (be it in portrait, outdoors, landscape or anything).. a CPL or a UV filter? Do you usually buy a UV filter when you get a new lens or get a CPL? Your thoughts please. Thanks for reading.

Do note that CPL cannot be used everywhere ..

a uv filter would be great.

it protects the first glass in front of your lens, so please no need to baby it.

Some people just leave their CPL on their lens.. Dnt know why. Maybe for convenience since they always shoot outdoors perhaps..

Both filter serves different purpose.

UV- In digital camera context, a UV filters serves as a protection to the lens front element.
CPL- is for many other purpose. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_filter#Polarizer

I do not use UV filter as a form of protection. I go filterless unless i need 1.

Filters i use, ND filter, GND filter, CPL.

CPL will give a -1 to -1.5 stops, so using it in low light situation will be an issue.

No, because some salesperson told them it will make all their pictures look good and all pros use a CPL when outdoors.

*cough*

CPL will magically cut all reflections and make the sky blue, even if it's overcast.

you should definitely buy a cpl ... i bought one, and many of the members on cs gave me tips on using it...

all those tips helped me a lot, esp. during my trip to siem reap, where i wanted to photograph some carvings made on the bed of a flowing stream in the hills outside the town...

if used correctly, it can really be useful...

these 2 things serve different purposes.

i don't use either.
