Worth the upgrade?

I have been using the 5D with kit lens for a while now. Thinking of getting the AF 28 - 75 F2.8D. I have read many good things about this lens. I guess many users of 7D will have this as standard since the kit lens was not available then.

So, beside the F2.8 which is obvious, any better points against the kit lens?

Do u like the wide end? Remember 28mm is 42mm on the 5D.... that's won't be good for stuff like landscapes and group photos, etc... not wide enough really... so u might want to consider the 17-35mm instead if u are considering a replacement. If u are thinking of a longer lens, then u should get something like the 75-300mm which will complement what u already have.

It's a nice lens, definately sharper than the kit lens:lovegrin:

It may not be wide enough but it had been good enough for me most of the
time. I'll bring the two along, using the kit lens as a cheaper wide angle lens
till I can save up / need a better wide

I am fully aware of the limitation of the wide angle and I also have the 75 - 300mm.

So if the 28 - 75mm has some good points against the kit lens, I will upgrade. So for those who use both before, please enlighten me.

Perhaps after this, the next target is 17 - 35mm or even the 11 - 18mm. Probably I can live with the kit lens to cover that little wider angle if I have to. Unless someone is going to convince me that the 17 - 35mm is again a much better lens that the kit lens...

i have both kit and the 28-75. to be honest i dun use the 28-75 that much... not wide enuf to take to parties for group shots, not long enuf to take sports shots...nice for portratits but then i have the 50 1.7, and the 100 2.8 macro... hehe doremonx, if u offer a good price, i can consider selling. 10+ mth warranty, with box and receipt hehe PM me if you want. The pics are of cos very sharp... just the range is not sth i use that often.
