Wireless flash

I tried the wireless flash system with my 3600HS (D) flash. After following all the steps in the manual, as described, my flash started flashing the red light in a rhythmic manner (which is the response I expect). However, when I pressed AE-L, I expected my accessory flash to flash, but it didn't. Instead, when I raised my built-in flash, the built-in flashed instead. Of course, when I kept my built-in flash down, nothing flashed. This happend with 404si and 7 bodies. Can anybody explain what happened?

My 3600HS (D) works well when I don't use wireless flash. I haven't tried wireless flash recently, but the last time I used it, some 1 year ago, it was working fine, but I can't remember was I able to trigger the accessory flash by pressing AE-L.

Hi There.....

For the wireless to be triggered.....you need the camera built in flash to be up. Pressing the AEL is to test out the wireless if its working. The in-built flash will stobe and then wireless will strobe in response...

The red light on the flash is alternating on and off......is normal to denote that its alive and waitign for a signal.....

SO for wireless....put the flash somewhere else...then take the photo with the in built flash up and poofffff....you will trigger the wireless flash.....

You can choose the flash ration too....from the user menu....

I've tried that actually, but it still doesn't work:

After putting my built-in flash up and press AEL, the built-in flashed, but accessory didn't. Repeated testing by pressing AEL evoked the same response- built-in flashed, but accessory didn't.

This happens no matter how I orientate camera and accessory. To ensure I am not seeing things, I even went to the extent of putting my accessory in front of my face, while the built-in face away from me.

Hi,

Have you sync your accessories flash with the camera body?

Before you can use wireless flash, you should attached the flash to the body and switch on the camera. Then change the flash mode to wireless and select the channel to be used.

You may refer to E29/E33 of 3600 HS (D) manual for more details.

Hmm, maybe the wireless signal receiver on the flash is damaged ?

Anyway, I managed to solve my problem already, after pouring through my camera and flash manuals. I'm supposed to use wireless channel 1, cos I had accidentally set it to channel 2, since my accessory flash was the only accessory I was using.

Hmm....... this is something useful I learnt today....... I didn't know that the Dynax 7 has 2 channels for wireless flash..... so that means it can take 2 accesory flashes in addition to the built-in lar...... wow!

Yes, the minolta, be it the 404si, or the D7 (and I'm sure the same for the other models too, which accepts the HS(D) flashes and have wireless function, can have 2 accessory flashes. Its all in both camera and flash manuals.
