i've a pair of 3500xi strobes and a 5600hsd with my 5D. can't get the 3500xis to fire wirelessly although they work fine when mounted on the 5D. can't get any of them to trigger any other, in any combination including built-in flash.

i read somewhere that the solution is to shoot in manual, any ideas?

5600HS can do wireless, but 3500xi can't do wireless with the digital body. Tried, never work.. just the way it is..

Agreee... I have one 3500xi sitting idle in my dry cabinet cos not compatible at all with the 7D...:(

Hart & TME, thank you for the input/ confirmation. have any of you tried using one of those RF triggers for such flashes? would that be a viable workaround?

5600 dun work with the RF trigger, anyway i think generally minolta flash dun work with RF triggers...

:faint:

what about the minolta TC1000? i suppose with cable leads i could trigger all three?

Can be... but haven't tried it before... but then it won't be wireless flash then.. haha...

The big plus about Minolta system is with their wireless flash which don't require any other part (like IR trigger) and I love it.

I use 2 x 5600HS flash to do interior shots where other photographer who I shoot with, they are using Nikon gear and 2x Bowens 1000w light...

The different is, I can do the shoot in 30 minutes, it takes them 20 minutes to pull everything out and back and about 20kg different in weight, then after 20-30mins later they finish the shoot. I will be long gone. Yes, their quality is slightly better than mine due to flash power, but hey my back is still in 1 piece.

I simply love the system. I shoot in manual only though... cos it works for me that way.

thanks Hart. you've got a good point about wireless haha.. i guess i'm desperate to put the pair of 3500xis to good use. i wanted to get away from all the complicated studio set up (key factor is space to stash them all away) and i'm glad a pro like you relies on a pair of 5600, at least i know i'm headed in the right direction. i'll look into other methods (DIY perhaps?) to breathe new life into these old but solid flashes. ;)

Sure.. no prob... I think you might need those cable... OC-1000 or something like that and you can also get those TC-1100 for connecting up to 3 flashes.

Good luck.

Hart
