Hi.. Did any1 here know bout market price in malaysia? prefer in KL..

knowing the import tax in malaysia, i seriously doubt it will be cheaper than SG

Malaysia has no tax for photo eqt and no GST so prices are between 5-10% cheaper than Singapore. Quite a number of CSers have got their gear in JB or KL. But warranty may not be valid in Singapore.

Do you really know what you're talking about?
Photo equipment prices in KL are competitive and frequently cheaper than Singapore. Like Russ mentioned, Malaysia has no import tax for photo goods nor GST plus retail rentals and other business related costs are much, much lower than Singapore.

I understand that malaysia impose a rather high tax on electronics and low tax on liquor and cigarettes. Great insight to know that photo equipment are not tax heavily.

but form personal experience, i have been going KL, JB very often since the 90s....

had NEVER find equipment that sells cheaper than singapore. especially new.

but have bought some 2nd stuff at some very very old camera shop at thrown away prices. but not often. (once got a minolta spot meter for RM200). older photographers out there would know how much it cost in singapore back then.

no into hifi, found the same trend. prices there are about 20% higher than here.

obviously i dunno what i am talking about since i only go malaysia once a month and wonder why i have to carry eqpt to my friends there.....better ask my friends to start carrying it out for me

visited a few shops and most of them are more costly than SG even wit the exchange rates..
maybe someone can share the best shops to go to as i do visit KL a few times a year ...

Much that you and I and I'm sure everybody is hoping but all those factors does not necessarily translate to savings for consumers.....

Ahhh was abt to open a topic abt this,
Anyways, anyone knows good shops to get Canon DSLRs from? I might be going up KL during the mid-year.

Majority of the CSers buy their DSLRs locally rite? How often will your unit "breakdown" (touchwood) before the warranty period ends? Just enquiring.. ;p

I don't know about others but Canon EOS 40D with 17-85 IS is indeed cheaper than SG at S$2250, even cheaper is the currency is Ringgit@RM4950. but add 7% GST the different is not that much anymore. try asking in PhotoMalaysia if you going to buy there yourself, can save GST and delivery charges, the saving may be a few hundred dollar.

So you mean a Canon camera bought in M'sia and the same Canon camera bought in S'pore will have different quality tolerances?

Wah.. got difference meh? I doubt so rite?

I bought my SLR camera from KL and when I bought few years back, it was cheaper then SG price by few hundred dollars(may be 200 or 300, cant remember the difference now).

I just asked a shop recently, selling nikon D80 with kit for RM3380. Going to Lowyat and Sg Wang for price hunt tomolo. Not sure cheaper or not compare to SG.

but just be caution on some shop in Sg Wang...some are selling grey set.

Warranty wise, i think you can ask for tourist warranty which you can convert it to Sg warranty when you are back to Sg. I know Sony have such warranty, but sure about Canon.

I'm from Malaysia and previously, I always do comparison between prices in Malaysia and Singapore. Found that generally it's cheaper in Malaysia. Currently checking out prices on Nikon D300, got some prices as below :

Average price : RM 5,750
Cheapest : RM 5,450 (Selangor Photographers, Pertama Complex KL)

for the average price can do some bargaining at some reputable shops like :
YL Camera (Pudu Plaza KL), JOne (Amcorp mall PJ)

for the cheapest one ... i dunno how they get it .. but it's a feedback from forum in Photomalaysia..

how bout the prices in SG ?

Hi, how can I determine the camera is not grey set? Is it through its warranty card? By the way, is there anyway that i can check if the camera has been used or not in term of how many photos has been taken?

Thx
