Any good wide angle prime lens that can be a possible replacement for KM 17-35 D lens?
I realise most of the time, I use the lens, I only used at 17mm....

If you don't mind fisheye look, Minolta/Sony has the 16mm f2.8 Fisheye.

For third party 17mm, there is the Tokina 17mm f3.5.

KM 20mm f2.8.. not that wide as 17mm.. but it's the widest KM prime lens. :) exclude the FE 16mm

buy sigma 10-20 la haha.

and enjoy the funky distortions

I like to take wide and close up shots.
I read that Sigma's 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 's min focus distance is rather short.
Not sure abt 17-35mm.

11-18mm is the next lens I can think of. But Sony's price put me off.

thanks...had to get from ebay...haha....now getting to terms with the distortion. haha. but a whole lot of fun. now my lens slowly all becoming sigma liao. hahha

think this time, I will get a prime lens, hehe
hard to find leh wide angle prime lens for minolta one,
I looking for something less than 24mm... wonder what the cost like

I'm looking for a wide angle zoom that is in the range of 17-70mm or thereabouts... no Sigma, either Tamron or Sony... the CZ 16-80mm is really what I'm looking for but the price is probably out of my reach... otherwise, 16-80mm plus a 70-300mm wah... 2 lenses for travel enough liaoz...

18mm is not wide enough and 200mm not long enough... minimum must be 17mm and the long end at least 300mm... so two lenses just nice... also like that the lens is less likely to flare (cos u usually can't choose when u want to shoot on holiday with other people) and faster as well...

hmm.... 17 n 18 has not really very much effect.. just a bit.. walk a bit backwards n u get 17mm

if going to scenic places, i feel 17-35 is just enough. i used that throughout my trip.

17mm wide enough meh
My current travel lenses are:
10-20mm + 28-75mm/28-135mm
or 18-200mm (when light weight is prefered or tricky condition).

Very rare that I will need 300mm during travel, hard to do birding during travel. Unless visit zoo or safari.

17mm on digi is 28mm, looks wide to me, wider somemore, the pic looks funny...

if i really want 17mm, i just bring my film body along.

The distortion is indeed funny  but sometime you just like to capture the whole scene and get the feel of it.

No leh... 17mm on the 7D is about 26mm... That's quite close to the ideal wide angle of 24mm where distortion is quite controlled. I want a 35mm equivalent of 24mm to 300mm which is not available now on the market either as one lens or two lenses... the 17-35mm is too short at the tele-end...

Just recall, Tamron is coming out a 18-250mm = 27-375mm in full frame.

agree about the wideness thing... my 17-35 on digital i still sometimes find i want to go wider. nowadays using film camera... wah, the feeling is so shiok, true 17mm... only problem is that sometimes not long enough, so i usually carry a 50mm prime as well.
