radis lecti, the auto brush really useless eh ?? try scanning a dirty slide leh.

thanks.

Hmmm... Actually have tried.. Doesnt seem to work at all... Will give it a try again and post uncorrected results... Anyway, have now developed a workflow to take care of the problem - first use blower to blow away dust, then a lens cleaning paper to take care of anything that remains. Take 10-15 secs.. much less than it would take if I had to use ICE ;) But then, you know I am enamoured with the scanner so all faults seem trivial

going to get one soon.....

got it on monday, but haven't tried yet

Hi Munfai

Just want to confirm something, how much did you pay for yours?

I heard that for a while it was like S$550/= at CP, before they realise it's a mistake, so now it's like over S$600/=?

Thanks.

hyeah with my scan dual II I brush then blow before insertion..

Have posted 2 scans - one without the dust brush and one with. You can see for yourself that the dust brush is almost useless... Does cause some reduction in dust but so less as to be useless.

Had to throw my slide on to the floor to get that much dust on it - but I guess the effect is clear now! :)

yah, can see the dust.

thanks for showing.

bought mine at $550 (GST included) too from Simon at Cathay Photo Marina Square. It's better to buy there cos of the lucky draw and scratch-and-win ;p

Have tried out some slides but it seems that Autofocus didn't work very well. Some slides which look sharp under a loupe turned out to be soft. There're a few which turned out sharp. Anyone encountered the same problem?

yah, got mine at 550 as well

Yeah, looks to me like those wriggly dust hairs are the most difficult to remove for a software-based auto dust remover.

I think I can live with or without it, like what you suggested, clean the slide first before scanning is still better.

Thanks for your reviews and samples Radix.

And thanks to those who comfirmed the price of the scanner. At $550, looks like a real bargain for a decent slide scanner.

No, I haven't seen anything like that with my slides - and I dont even focussed the thing! Probably what you are seeing is just a natural los of sharpness - whenever you convert something from analog to digital there is some loss - this is seen even in a high-end DSLR. Alll you need to do to recover the sharpness is apply usm. In fact, I remember having read a very nice article on 2-step AUSM - one to gain back the sharpness lost while scanning and in Camera CCD and the second to prepare the digital image file for output.
