Which to upgrade: A33/A55/A65?

Problem is that LA-EA2 is not cheap, when mounted, loses its size diff and without stabilizer.

I will keep both 5n and a65 if its me, for different purposes.

Got mine at S$391 at a very popular Cam shop in Funan, was expecting S$500+ during Alpha4.
In use, it feels smaller than the A55 and the SSS is no biggie for me as I got along fine shooting 35mm film.

... and as noisy due to the SLT without the additional details from the 24M resolution of the A65/77 and without the image stabiliser and 2.4M OLED EVF ;)

I don't see what noise has to do with the SLT, 24mp, 16mp, SSS or the EVF ? if the sensor/processor/ISO is noisy, it's noisy. Period !
the IQ I get from the 5N/LA-EA2 combi are way better than what I'm getting from my A55.

My post was directed at toxotis70 and I am not telling TS to get a 5N.
When Sony released the 5N, it was so good that many from other brands come and joined the Sony bandwagon because they could use their existing lense thru adaptors. I am sure that Sony also anticipated that many of their Alpha users would also do the same thus they made the LA-EA2 to benefit them. (I'm one of them)

I was eagerly looking forward to the A77, but the 5N has spoilt me :bsmilie:, it has redefine portability and available-light photography for me. I'm awaiting the release of the NEX 7 and may get that instead of the A77 ...if it doesn't have serious issues.
I'm seriously considering that if I am gonna be serious enough to lug a DSLR/SLT with all the associated lense along, I might as well go FF and that's only a 6 months wait for the A9X. ;)

What I mean is that the addition of the SLT in the LA-EA2 would make the images noisier. Period. Comparing a NEX-5/N + LA-EA2 combination with the A77/A65, that there would no 24M, SSS and EVF are just foregone conclusions since they are not present in the NEX-5 or NEX-5N in the first place. Nothing to do with noise.
By the way, that the SLT would make for slightly noisier images is an observation posted by dpreview in their review of the A77 when they compared the noise levels in high ISO images from both the A77 (with SLT) and the NEX-7 (without SLT).

That's exactly what my point was !!!

But you seems to be implying that they do ! :dunno:

Anyway, we're totally OT here, the topic is about A33/A55 and A65 ...not 5N

I don't see how what I wrote could have been interpreted like that. What I said was just that while adding the LA-EA2 to the NEX 3/N might give the user the fast focusing capabilities of SLT cameras, it is at the expense of slightly more noise and would have to do 'without the additional details from the 24M resolution of the A65/77 and without the image stabiliser and 2.4M OLED EVF' which are only available in the A65/77.

Then again, I do believe that having 24M resolution and image stabilisation do help in reducing the appearance of noise in the images in other ways. For example, in the case of the A65/77, though the images appear slightly noisier when viewed at 100%, the noise is not noticeable any more when the 24M images (and the noise artifacts) are reduced to sizes for printing to A4 or for internet posting. Having image stabilisation means that we can afford to shoot at lower ISOs and enjoy lower noise levels in the resultant images... otherwise we might need to shoot at much higher ISOs with the longer focal length lenses in order to achieve high enough shutter speeds to avoid handshakes. I found that I cannot hand hold my NEX-5+LA-EA1+SAL70300G combination at all because of handshakes while I have no problem hand holding the SAL70300G on my A77.

Not only that.

I found that with sensor shift IS, i can almost shoot at 1/30s for focal length between 16-75mm without image blur.

With optical IS, it seems not really useable at that focal range as the IS seems jerky sometimes (used canikon ones before). Of course for anything above 100mm, optical IS seems better.

In any case, its always better to have IS than not having at all, esp for normal people like me. Your mileage might differ though.
