Hi, I am currently in Tokyo for the next couple of days. Would anyone be able to point me the shop to purchase canon lenses here. I would be looking for 70-200 F2.8 L IS. Thanks.

use these two big dealers as a benchmark:

BICCAMERA
http://www.biccamera.com/bicbic/jsp/w/camera/index.jsp#d_camera

YODOBASHI
http://www.yodobashi.com/enjoy/more/index/index.html

and work from there. the sites are in japanese and you have to click your way around a little bit. if you read chinese, you may get a hint what the link leads to. have fun.:bsmilie:

Is the camera/lens price in Japan cheaper than SG?

generally canon/nikon body / lens prices not cheaper than SG, however 3rd party lenses e.g. tamron and used bodies / lenses are cheaper...check out MAP camera (Shinjuku) and Fujiya (Nakano station).

Wonder why Nikon/Canon camera/lens are more expensive over there? Because of the import/export tax? Do we have to pay tax for buying camera products from oversea?

I suggest u go to MAP Camera. i think theyhave the best prices in tokyo. cheaper than yodobashi or bic camera or akihabara shops. please BRING YOUR PASSPORT to the shop, if not u cant qualify for tourist price

Does Map camera do new equipment?

I thought they are only dealing with used stuff

Their used equipment is barely touched, I wonder what the first owner did
with their cameras :)

yes of course they sell new. i bought a 400d new there. there are a few floors. one floor sells new stuff. another floor sells used stuff.

good serivce, polite fella there. i think his name was Rei. (:
