guys, may i know which of the above is good for converting VCD, DVD to Mpeg file?
i'm a IT idiot, so something that is easy to master is a must. ;)

would be glad if i can have the cost 2.

thx, :p

Hi yeobt. Not really sure what you are trying to do. You see, VCD and DVD are already encoded in MPEG format. If you just want to make them have the correct file suffix, do a search for DAT2MPG (which will convert VCD files) and VOB2MPG (which will convert DVD files).

Please note that if the DVDs are copy-protected, you will need a program like CSS Decrypt to unlock them.

On the other hand, if you want to convert your own video footage to VCD or DVD, you will need an MPEG encoder and maybe VCD/DVD authoring software. TMPEnc is free for encoding VCD (MPEG1) but you need to buy a license for DVD encoding (MPEG2).

you can try SUPER (Freeware) to get a feel for the whole encoding and authoring process. have fun.

thanks for the above reply.

i was actually trying to upload VCD onto the youtube but was unsuccessful.
in the end, i have to send the VCD which is a video clip of my son birthday
to a shop for conversion to mpeg file. i think those movie VCD n DVD are
the same. so, i thought if i can get the software, i can do the conversion
myself.

in the meantime, i will try to do wat you guys have suggested.
will come back if i hit the wall. keke :)

VCD files have a .dat extension. You can try just renaming the file to .mpg but sometime there is a problem with the audio if you do this. DAT2MPG will convert it properly but it's a DOS type program which is not common nowadays.

DVD is different again. If you need more info please post again.

bros, the clip info is as followed;

Title AVSEQ01
Artist / Source -
File Name E:\MPEGAV\AVSEQ01.DAT
Send Media Link by E-mail
Length 53:22
Format .DAT
Quality -
Audio Channels 2
Rights Summary There are no rights or restrictions associated with this clip

my question is, how to change file name or convert .DAT format to mpeg on real player?

thx,

thx,

sometimes renaming the .dat extension to .mpg or .mpeg is enough.

dunno why you wanna use real player. window media player and VLC player can open your .dat (from vcd) or .vob (from dvd) file without renaming.

thanks for all the reply.

btw, i can play my video from all the players. the reason why i 1 2 do the conversion is
becos i 1 2 do editing on the movie DVD for fun n the movie editor software dont support
.dat file. ;)
