Why was your finger in there in the first place? hmm...

Luckily this is an easily replaceable part. Instructions to remove and install a focusing screen in your camera is here: http://www.focusingscreen.com/work/a350en.htm Sorry english in there sucks but it is still understandable.

If you are ok with changing it with a third party one, it will cost $50-100 depending on the one you choose. http://www.focusingscreen.com/index.php?cPath=26_86

These focusing screens are different from the original one from Sony in that they have special guides in there to help you with manual focusing. See this page to understand how it works http://www.focusingscreen.com/privacy.php.

In my old D40x, I took out my old focusing screen and put in one of these. Works wonders for manual focusing. And yes, I did it myself.

Thanks a lot man... It really helped...

Don't be afraid to send to Sony for servicing. They won't charge you anything until you confirm the cost.

Glad to be able to help. It is good to know more about your camera, be able to understand how to do simple tasks rather than depending on the service center on everything and spending unnecessary money.

For the benefit of everyone, the price of the A350 Focus Screen or Focus Plate cost SGD18 from Sony Service Centre. Total with GST is SGD19.20. Replacement is relatively easy and can be done yourself (save the $80 service charge). All you need is a small flat-head screwdriver (from those cheap multi-screwdriver sets), a tweezer and a pair of very steady hands!

One very other important thing to note if you are ever changing the focus plate: Do NOT ever turn the camera body back around from the upside down position after you have removed the retainer and the focus plate. There are some other loose parts (another plate with AF indicators and a piece of metal) under the focus plate and these will fall off easily if you right the camera body. You can put these back again, but then you will risk getting more dust into the penta-mirror area. Leave the camera in the upside down position until you have reinserted the new focus plate and put back the retainer. REMEMBER!

Have also checked on the price of the retainer, its SGD6, the plate with the AF indicator costs SGD28.
