Hi all, anyone has any recommendation as to where to buy wall frame other then ikea.

The size I intend to print is 12x18, 8 x 10 and 6 x 9.

The minilabs do have ready made frames, you also can find them from Popular Bookstroes.

Yeap I do see some in mini lab ... Other then these? Where do you guy get your frames?

custom framing from frame makers, cost many times more than those ready made frames.

Yeah that is what I was trying to avoid .. Looks like not much choice other then mini lab, popular, Amazon or ikea ( ikea dimension seems to be 4:3, rather then 3:2 which is what I want)

Mass market frames will usually be found in photo shops, home furnishing/lifestyle shops, stationery shops. Even Daiso should have some cheap 4R (3:2) frames as it's what is commonly printed.

Just took a look at the ikea site, quite a number of frames for 3:2?

E.g. this looks like 3:2. (30 x 21cm) http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/70301448/

Actually, all the RIBBA frames look close to 3:2 with the mat, 4:3 without - http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/50301618/#/50191865

This one is 3:2 without mat (15 x 10cm) and with mat (12 x 8cm)

Maybe you want to look again.

What's your use case? Is it meant to be a cheap/budget kinda thing in huge qty (e.g. corporate gift or something, home wall display, etc), or are you talking about framing one special pic?

If you have a very specific thing in mind, then custom is the way to go.

If don't have the budget for custom frames, and it's for like personal home use, I'd go and find the frames I want to use first, then crop/print my pics to fit. Not the other way round if budget is your priority. The other option if you don't want to compromise on your aspect ratio is to learn to custom cut your own mats. Then you can use almost any off the shelf frame you want. Got some sunk cost involved, buying the mat cutter + practice, but if you need it consistently, then it's a worthwhile skill to have.

I went through the whole ikea list previously. I am looking for a series of different size frames that of similar design. The issue with ikea frames is the bigger ones does not do 12 x 18 with mat. Those have dimension of 4:3 instead of 3:2. The smaller dimension does fit my need.

Example:

Oh yeah, you're right. It does vary.

Again, if you have specific needs that cannot budge, then either gotta DIY or custom route. You could cut your own mats to suit your needs. In fact, for the two largest frames, you could possibly even mod the frames cos they don't use glass but plastic. Cutting glass also can but a bit trickier. But that's your own priorities to balance. Budget / skill / time / convenience...

Don't waste money on ready made frames. They only look good from far far away.

So you advise cusTom?

You go take a look on custom framing, a real finished product, compare it to those ready made frame. Than you decide is it worth the money.

Sure. U have any shop you personally will recommend?

Most custom framers do a decent job, at reasonable prices by custom frame standards. My most recent framing was done by the framer at Peninsula Plaza 5th floor. Express Framing I think. They have been around for 20+ years so should be OK.

Ikea frames are cheap but flimsy and won't last. But sure saves a lot of $$$.
