Hi to all Pros and Video enthusiasts out there

I have just ventured into serious video filming hobby and gotten myself landed on a Canon XHA1. Its a good camera, albeit some of the imperfections. However I struggle with the following:

1) Where could I get good complementary accessories to this Camera? I know of a shop in SLS called "Video Pro", but is this the only shop in Singapore selling accessories? I've checked out Alan Photo, but found it very limited. I would like to have choices in getting stuff like video lightings, Support frame, zoom mics and even the remote control for the camera. Having found no good sources for this so far. Need advise.

2) Where is a good place to learn about this camera better and also generally about filming. I saw that there a lots of settings for this cameras (like gama...), but found rather limited information in the manual. Did some event shooting over the weekend, but I'm not that satisfy with the footages (good thing that its a voluntary shoot to gain experience, else I will be slaughtered by the organizer:o). I would like to grasp deeper knowledge on it to make it really useful. Any recommendation on courses or trainings?

Thanks and look forward to good advise from all of you out there.

Regards

Welcome to the world of Videography. There is a lot t learn. From pre to post production. I think u should focus on Pre production first. For accessories, try www.expandore.com. There is also Haichew at Sim Lim Tower Lvl 2.

As for learning, u can find most info on the web. Itz slow but most rewarding and fun. If u need to master it fast for some reasons, then u can consider to attend a course with say... www.videolifestyle.com. Good luck!

Thanks very much for the info. Yes, will be focusing on Pre production first, wanted to ensure that the Raw footages are good, else Post will be very limited (gone through one such experience).

Will check up expandore and Haichew. Thanks.

I'm trying to pick from the web, but there's an ocean of info out that. Did a google on XHA1 and got lots of info in bit and pieces. Would like to get my fundamental both on the camera and technique right to move on more effectively (exactly what I did for my photography part too, now I can pick new stuff on photography easier and also trying to apply some of these knowledges on videography (my old love even before photography), though they are not exactly the same). Will check up videolifestyle then.

Thanks for sharing. :bsmilie:

Hi, sorry to borrow this thread.
I'm getting a xha1 soon too and would like to know where do u guys normally get hardcases for video cams. Also http://www.expandore.com ?
Can any recommend any cases?

there r 3 brands of hard case. Pelican, Wonderful/Just in case and one more american brand. Just in case is cheapest cuz China made. Expandore has them. I'm not sure where to get pelican case locally. As for the last brand, one shop at Shaw twr level 2 near the lift selling cams have it.

Hi engr,

Thanks for the info, i tried to search for hard cases in the expandore eshop, but could only find a few hardcases which were very expensive. Didn't see the Just in case that you mentioned but thanks I'll call them up to enquire about it. Last night i did some research, is the 3rd brand you mentioned 'Storm case'? They seem quite good and i'm interested in getting them.

a pelican 1550/1520 seems to fit fine.... around $300+

by the way there are way more than 3 brands avail in the singapore mkt...

1) Pelican from Marvid
2) SKB from Sheares
3) Storm Cases from alot of dive shops
4) HPRC from Shirro
5) And countless other China ones...

oh and Seahorse cases too.. hahaha
i guess we're spoilt for choice in this small tiny island

After some reading on the net, the storm cases seems pretty good.
Any ideas where to get good deals on storm cases?

And there's also custom made flight cases with dividing foams inside for camera and accessories.

Cheers!
