Hi. Can anyone recommend reputable camera stores in Taipei for Nikon dslr cameras and lenses?

How are Taiwan prices compared to Hong Kong prices anyway? I see on Ebay that a Taiwan seller has some incredibly low prices. Wonder if brick and mortar camera shops also have low low prices (or lower than SG).

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

try camera street at taipei. its near to ximending. prices not that cheap compared to sg though.

"camera street" is called Hankou Jie, or Han Kou Street. Its between Ximending and Taipei Main (train) Station. There are about 20 odd shops in that area alone. Best is to go after lunch and before 8pm, some of the shops close right before dinner.

Not really cheaper for Canon and Nikon stuff, or that matter the "big branded" stuff like Gitzo and the likes. Sigma, Tamron and Tokina stuff are indeed cheaper, again varies with product in question.

But they do have some interesting accessories which are not found here so, might be good to get there. Things like straps, lens pouches and stuff of the like which are of unique design and not brought into Singapore. Missed out on a nice camera strap when I was there, thought it was a little ex at about SG$30, but when I got back to it, the shop was closed for the day and I was leaving the next morning, so open your eyes big-big if you want to buy anything there. :bsmilie:

Hi thanks for the info guys. I'll try to visit camera street when I'm in Taipei and give an update if I do.

There are quite many internet shops with good reputation in Taiwan, You might refer their price through internet befre you went there, those shops can be reached by MRT, pricing is clear and fixed:

Price should be cheaper than in Singapore, for example of Canon 70-200 F4L IS, new one just costs the price of used one here.

BTW, normally you have to pay by cash for those listed price.

Ok I found camera street.
It's a long street but the camera shops are concentrated on 1 block on 1 side of Hankou between Boai and Chongqing South roads.

Nikon D300 body cash price NT53000 Taiwan warranty / NT48000 no warranty (S$2400 / S$2173 at NT2209 = S$100, today's S$ buying rate at Chang Hwa Bank). Both effectively have no warranty in Singapore. John3:16 at Funan quoted S$2450 last week.

Asked at 4 shops, the price is the same. The difference is some shops want 5% for credit card payment and others want 2%. The shopkeepers are really nice and didn't show black faces when I didn't buy.

For comparison, a friend checked the price of D300 at Fortress in Hong Kong last week- HK$12800 or approx S$2253-2266.

Lin San, thanks for the links. The prices at the yahoo.tw online stores lower for some things than the prices I got.
