I've heard of photo labs where the colours and exposure of the photos are adjusted (or corrected) before printing. Does anyone know of such a lab? How much would such a service cost and has anyone used them before?

most labs do minor adjustments but personally, i ask them not to....always makes my photos turn out not too good..

I send my pics to Grace Digital @ sunset way and I usually let the boss, Simon, do the adjustments for me...no additional charges...so far the pics turn out quite gd for me....

But u can also do ur own adjustments and ask him nt to do it for you also...ur own preferences..

if u stay in the east,

u can go to Fotostation at marine terrace blk 58,very high QC by the boss.

they are off on fridays though.

Most decent labs will do that for you, you just need to find one that is near you and that suits you in terms of service level.

I use the Fuji FDI lab at Burlington Square - TripleD. Have been happily with TripleD since I dumped my previous lab KT.

I'm fussy over the extent my lab will ensure my prints come out good, even down to differences in colors on different-sized paper and keeping my stuff properly. Some labs will damage or lose your media/negatives. Some may give all sorts of excuses for improperly printed colors. And some... can't even tell the difference between magenta and yellow. I won't use those labs, even though they are so many near me.

what kind of paper do they use and what are their prices like?

Can photos be developed with a white border? Can any lab do that?

Do these shops also touch up your pictures digitally? I don't mind paying a little extra for someone to touch up the photos I take of my family, you know remove wrinkles, smoothen face lines, adjust skin tones, darken the sky, brighten the colors, etc. I am more a P&S person with little time for photoshopng the photos to remove blemishes. I believe there are quite a lot of people like me out there and don't mind paying a reasonable fee to get it fixed and printed.

I highly recommend the FotoHub chain (www.fotohub.com). I go to the Bukit Timah branch at 2nd Ave Junction (Bukit Timah Rd). You can give very specific instructions for printing and they will follow through. If you leave it to them, photos are well corrected anyway. If you wish to have increased saturation, just let them know to "plus density". They will also do special sizes and trim to size. Very good service. Other reasons to use them: They have upload, order & print online, and they use mostly use Fuji Crystal Archive paper.

Just a note about the paper used:. In the technical specs, IIRC, Kodak Royal paper is rated to last 18 years, whereas Fuji Crystal Archive is 60 years. In my own experience, my prints on Kodak Royal have faded faster than Fuji Crystal Archive prints. YMMV. :)

Yup, quite a few labs do that. At Fotohub, just order "Classic Borders". But it costs 5 cents more per print.

Adjusting skin tones, brightness/contrast are "standard" adjustments for any good lab. But once you get into "photoshopping" images to remove/add stuff, then you are looking at relatively expensive services, and are charged per image. These also require that you give very specific instructions on what to do, and are things usually done for enlargements and/or restoration of old photos. Again, quite a few good labs will have such services, but their quality of touchup and prices need to be checked out. Be prepared to pay a bomb.
