Where can I get Benbo tripods in Singapore?

Hi All,

Newbie here, looking to get the Benbo trekker or mini trekker from what tripod reviews I see on the web (I will be doing lots of picture taking from above). Anyone know whether there's a distributor for Benbo in Singapore or whether there are any other substitute accessories for taking pictures from above? (CSI comes to mind (when they're taking pictures of evidence on the table, they place the camera on a stand of some sort above the object -- ideally this is what I want, but a versatile tripod that can point down will work fine too), but I have no idea what that device is called)

Would much appreciate the help.

Cheers,
Nobu

I have a Benbo mini trekker and their ball head of years gone by, great tripot and serves me well.
Don't think you can get it here now. Nobody seems to carry them anymore.
For your requirements you can try Gitzo Explorer series.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Gitzo Explorer series does seem like a pretty good alternative, but from what I can see so far it's still quite pricey (at least, from what amazon is selling it at) and it doesn't come with a ball head :(( I just emailed Cathay inquiring about the prices. Wish me luck!

Thought the brand should be Benro.

Benro is a cheap made-in-China brand that is a rip off of Gitzo apparently.

It was talked about last year from what I gather in another thread....It is very much a "wannabe" brand that clones from Gitzo.

The Benbo I'm looking for can be found here (looking for Trekker, and Mini Trekker prices respectively).

Yes, there is only one Benbo tripod, the design is so unique. it is very good for nature photographers.

I remember Cathy used to sell it, but that was many years ago, not sure about TCW is selling now.

Hi catchlights,

I guess I'll email them again to see if they stock it up. Thanks for replying.

A very interesting tripod. nobu, pls let me know if TCW does sell this tripod or if you are able to find a similar product. Thanks!

I don't think TCW sells them and Cathay had stop selling them long time ago.
I got mine from Cathay many many moons ago.

Hi Dennis,

It doesn't sound likely that I'll be able to get a 1st hand tripod then; I have had a nice gentleman offer to sell me a 'new' Benbo 2 so far but I'm still hoping that there will be a trekker out there waiting or me. ^^;; In my case, weight does matter.

For those who have friends in the US who are coming to Singapore soon and are interested in getting a Benbo 1 however, perhaps they can get this used model (I didn't see this yesterday, so it's a new auction!). It's currently only selling at US$30!

Hope this helps.

Still waiting to hear word from Cathay regarding prices,
Nobu
