well i don't mind sitting by the projector .. as long as the focus doesn't jump from one frame to the other, simply pressing the forward button isn't troublesome...

so sounds like the Leica is the most value for money rite now..

Cheapest is Braun. Followed by Kindermann. If the Leica without IR is $250, and the IR is $300, makes more sense to get the IR one right? :)

if it's $50 for the IR, the other one is wire remote, i dun mind getting wire remote.
but if it's like $150 for one of those other brands without remote, just sit there and forward-backward, but it more or less autofocuses, sounds quite ok leh.
if i have to fine focus for every slide, jialatz liao.

and sorry i dun understand the uses of different lenses for the projectors.. it's to make the projection area larger for large screens?

You can get a projector for as low as $80 from Cash Convertors actually. ;p

Anyway, projector lenses - the longer focal lengths produce a smaller image. They are meant for large halls where the screen is very far away from the projector. The typical focal length is about 80-90mm. Enough to project a decently sized image if your projector is about 3.5m from screen/wall. There are also zoom lenses, which can vary the size of the projected image. Like cameras, lenses matter here too. Better lenses means better projected image quality in terms of sharpness, light fall off, colour saturation etc.

For the Leica Pradovit projectors, the Leica Colorplan 90/2.5 is a very good projection lens. About $200 new I think, but I am still eBaying for a cheap used one. :)

went down to CP yesterday. the saleslady was still mulling in her economic crisis and was in no mood to do her work, like it is for her every day in her life.

she insists the kinderman and leica are the same, the AF is the same, and the lenses dun matter ... ... ...

life is good for car salesladies.

she gave the price of $280 for leica without IR remote and quite a bit more with the IR, can't remember the figure.

she said the lenses can't be changed.

so leica comes with 90mm/2.5 lens by default?

The default lens is a Leica Hektor 85mm f/2.8. Decent they say. But the Colorplan 90mm f/2.5 is supposedly better. My cheapo Braun is similar enough to the Leica, but the Kindermann doesn't look that similar. Most projector's lenses can be changed.

You can hop over to Foto Guide to buy the Pradovit projectors, a bit cheaper methinks.

so to get a colorplan lens i have to get the default set and change?

i thought braun only makes shavers :) so u're comfortable with braun except for having to fine-tune the focus with ur wire remote whenever u think it goes off ...

Yeah, you basically have to buy a basic set, and change the lens later (if you want). A bit like buying a SLR kit (e.g. F55 kit, EOS300 kit etc) and changing lens later.

Oh, the Braun for shaver and Braun for photo equipment are different companies. I thought they were the same too. ;p Yeah, apart from the focus problem, I am alright with it. Hey, it's cheap. :)
