Pl note used Leica is more ex than it appears. Old resale Leica tend to have have hidden cost of CLA. Coz some leicas are very old. The need for CLA may not be evident at time of purchase.

Fully agree with you, just an example of old Leica bodies' common failure: The misalignment of the rangefinder (viewer) is already bad enough that its CLA will cost you a bomb and may not get it back to original shape, meaning you lose your focusing accuracy for this camera. Inexperienced buyer do not know the consequence of this issue because RF is not like SLR, there are so many hidden problems you only discover later with regrets.

yeah i had bad experience losing money too.

blame myself for being greedy, got duped into buy a counterfiet battery grip for my 5DMK2 sometime back... and Ebay/Paypal wants me to show proof of postage to send back the counterfiet BG back to the seller before they process a refund for me... in the end i did and got back my refund minus the postage fee I spent. So end up wasting $20-30+ postage.

Knowing the high risks involved, if i were to bid online, i'd disciplined myself to set firm limit of 50 to 60percent of street's used equipment price. Never get your head heated to bid up the monkey tree. Not winning the auction is better than getting a cheap junk.

Nowsaday sellers are even more cunning to insist you use FedEX/DHL with high shipping cost, hoping later when you discovered the scam you'll be reluctant to return the item.

ebay is like trying luck... i got good and bad deals.
