What is the PAL version of "Panasonic AG-HPX170"???

AG-HPX172... it's considered an old model now, superceeded by the AG-HPX250.
Still a good camera though. :)

HI, thanks...

What new features does the HPX250 have?

Thanks.

HPX250 have 22x lens, switchable between 50/60i formats, AVCIntra codecs, 3rd Generation 3MOS chips....
HPX172 uses 3CCD chips, and DVCProHD codec for HD recording.

Hi,

I see that this Panasonic AG-AC160 is also quite a capable camera.

Panasonic AG-AC160 AVCCAM HD Handheld Camcorder AG-AC160PJ B&H

I normally do wedding videography.

So what is the different, why got HVX, HPX and HMC? A bit confusing leh...

The 160 from BnH is NTSC

You would want to get the Panasonic AG-AC160EN the PAL version

Panasonic AG-AC160EN AVCCAM HD Video Camera | AGAC160EN | AG AC 160 |

The HVX- tape based
HPX - P2
HMC- AVC- SD card

in layman's term, you're choosing a camera that will give you options of
1) Recording Formats, 2) Recording Medium

Higher quality recording format like the AVCIntra100 (HPX250) need a faster and more reliable recording medium like the P2 card, thus more expensive.
A highly compressed recording format like the AVCCAM (AC160) doesn't require that high writing speed on the memory cards, thus they're able to write to SDHC cards.

Similar theory for using DSLRS....ie. shooting RAW will require you to use faster memory cards (eg. CF cards) and you run out of storage faster..... but if you're happy with JPEG pictures, you can choose to opt for another camera that uses slower a recording medium (eg. SDHC cards) and you can shoot more pictures based on the same amount of storage space.... :)

I got you guys now... In another words, HPX172EN let me record uncompressed files and AG-AC160EN record compressed files. Is that what you trying to tell me?

I think I preferred the HPX172 for the P2 recording. Doesnt mind doing the conversion.

Wrong. Both record compressed video. Its how the compression is done. HPX172 uses DVCPRO HD, an intraframe (all frames are present) codec. AC160 uses AVCHD, an interframe codec (frames are extrapolated) Intraframe requires less processor power to edit. However with faster computers, higher bitrate AVCHD codec and software support for AVCHD, the DVCPRO advantage is slowly eroded.

You got to ask yourself, what if you forgot to bring P2 card for a shoot. Can you cough up $700 rush down to Panasonic distributor while everyone waits for you? Finding a SD card is infinitely cheaper and much more convenient.
