Fortunately there are quite a number of used Minolta bodies around (check Camera Workshop) and lenses, although the choice of used lenses are quite limited.
Anyway, here's my choice (all items new):
1. Dynax 5 + 2 kit lens + Tokina AF 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 (~$1k)
2. Tokina AT-X 20-35mm f/2.8 AF PRO ($1010)
3. Manfrotto 190Pro + 141RC ($160), S&F Reporter 100 bag ($90), filters ($150), flash, and lots of film

3. Tokina AT-X 20-35mm f/2.8 AF PRO @S$1010

The 19-35 is much cheaper than the Sigma 17-35 though. Can consider this one.
Well, I guess my question was too vague to get any good answers.Originally posted by ziploc
I assume you are referring to film SLR? With $1000, you can get a Nikon F80 with lens, or a Canon EOS30 with lens. What type of lens depends on how much you're willing to spend.

How much is the Sigma 17-35? It's a 'D' lens as well, right?
but u already own a Minolta camera right? perhaps u need another one for backup ?Originally posted by nhyone

The problem with SLR is, the body already takes up S$500 to S$900. Not much left for any lens or accessories.
Now, let me save up another S$1k first..
And oh, I can't remember why I posted in the Minolta forum. Probably I was looking for Minolta specific solutions? But I am considering other systems as well.
Not really a backup -- I don't bring more than one camera on a photoshoot, but I am considering an alternative lightweight, stripped down, system.Originally posted by ninelives

So far, I've shortlisted,
1. Secondhand 600si + one lens
2. Secondhand Canon EOS 100 + one lens
3. Secondhand Nikon F80 + one lens
4. Secondhand Nikon FE2/FM2 + one lens
