Watershed camera: RX100 VI

This is just mind-blowing If you think about how just 4 years ago the 1" Sony RX1O was launched with a 24-200mm equivalent lens.
Today, the RX100 VI has the 24-200mm range imaging on the same sized 1" sensor. But now there is touchscreen for touch to focus, reliable phase detect autofocus and REC2020 Hybrid Log Gamma 4K. Besides the lack of audio inputs, I struggle to find a reason why anyone needs a RX10.

when I heard about RX100VI last week, I thought I might have been too rush in getting the TZ220 2 weeks ago...but after learning it cost USD1200, think at least S$1500-1600 when launch here, I will stick to my TZ220. there are certain things that the RX100VI are better than the TZ220, but I can live with it happily and saving easily S$600-700, that I cannot complain about...

No one should feel bad their purchase....except maybe those who bought the mk5 the day mk6 was announced. haha!

... I struggle to find a reason why anyone needs a RX10.

For one thing, it's a constant f2.8 vs f2.8-4.5 and for much of its focal range it is at f4 or smaller. We also don't know how the lenses compare in optical quality or has someone done a comparison already?
Don't get me wrong, the RX100 series continue their excellent feats of engineering but the devil is in the detail.
I expect the electronics to be head and shoulders ahead but optical designs haven't really enjoyed the same rate of progress.

Previous RX100 were f1.8-2.8 actually and the first 2 RX10 were constant f2.8. But the real draw for me is the touch AF!

wow...rrp is S$1649! thats a lot of dollars for a small camera...now my TZ220 seems like a bargain and Leica just re-packaged it as C-Lux which is also cheaper at S$1560...

Yes, of course but on the earlier RX100’s range drops to 24-70.
Conversely, the later RX10’s went to variable aperture but range increased significantly.
There’s rarely any free lunch in optics. Maybe they’ll start doing diffraction optics or phase fresnel zooms in future iterations.
They’re certainly pushing boundaries which is fantastic.
