Warranty and shutter count

Maybe I am missing something, but I keep seeing on the market place of this forum people selling their Canon equipment saying it is still under warranty.

However, if you go on Canon Website, you can see the following:

1. These terms and conditions apply to the limited warranty (“Limited Warranty”) from Canon Singapore Pte Ltd (“Canon”) in respect of Canon equipment (“Equipment”) purchased from an authorised dealer of Canon in Singapore and accompanied with a Canon Warranty Card (“Warranty Card”).
2. The Limited Warranty covers defects in material and workmanship encountered under normal use and installation of the Equipment, subject to these terms and conditions.
Unless otherwise specified in the Warranty Card, the Limited Warranty is valid only in Singapore.
3. The Limited Warranty is valid only for the original purchaser (“Purchaser”) of the Equipment and is not transferable.

Moreover, I see people asking or giving shutter counts. Currently, according to what I read on the net, it is almost impossible to prove your shutter count except if you have a Canon 1D and co, or if you know someone in Canon who can connect to your camera rom.

Am I wrong?

If not, I think it would be very important for the etiquette of the market place that people say the warranty is transferable or not and by which method they got their shutter count.

Apart from that, this forum really rocks and wish long life to it.

I am not a Canon user so i am not too sure how the warranty for Canon works. Correct me if i am wrong, when you buy a Canon cam be it a DSLR or Non DLSR, you DON"T have to register with Canon for the warranty to be in effect right? The key thing is the receipt that comes with the warranty card right?

If that is indeed so, there is no way Canon knows whether you are the original purchaser of the product. I sell you the cam together with the warranty card and receipt and you have in effect becomes the 'orginal' purchaser!

As far as I know, Canon asks you to register.
