I know this sound stupid but i'm really new to DSRL! just got 1 body & 1 lens for a few days. I'm not a S'porean and i'm studying here, my sharing room is quite small to put a dry cabinet (it's almost full now). Want to ask your guys is this possible to keep it without the dry cab? (i only have 1 body + 1 lens and keep shooting everyday, everytime)

Thanks a lot and pls forgive me if this problem has mentioned before!

A dry box would do too, if that is all the equipment you are likely to have in the short to medium term.

up, get a dry box from somewhere .
its cheap, like <$50 can get a good one with everything u need (silica) .

If you're going to use a dry box, remember to refesh the silica gels regularly. You can microwave to recycle them. :)

My non aircon room measures 73% RH with a hygrometer under normal days which is very high. I'd recommend you to get the 30L Digicabi as it wouldn't occupy much space. You can keep it underneath your computer table or so.

thanks all for your useful suggestions, but i heard someone said that it's ok to keep a camera without the dry cap if i use it usually (almost everyday), is it true?

Why do people put on lcd screen protectors or UV filters? It's to prevent, the possibility of scratches or marks. Dry box or dry cabinet will prevent the possiblity of fungus. It's up for you to decide. $50 is not much to pay when you've already spent probably 1k on your gear?

yes, but, are you gonne do this for the rest of your life?

thanks your guys, now i know what to do ^^!

bottomline, u already spent Ks on your equipment, why scrimp on a $100 odd dry cabinet?

when your Ks equipment gets infested with fungus, is it worth it?

i use a dry box that i made myself. i don't have any space in my house for a dry cabinet.

You just gotta know that if you leave it out in the open, you run the risk of fungi growing on your equipment. That's all. If you can live with that, it's fine.

It is your choice.
No dry cabinet = fungus infestation within 3 months.

Fungus thrive in still air. If you're bringing your gear around daily, then you can just pop some packets of silica gel.

Also depends how long will you be studying here, if it's only for 3-4 months, then buying a dri cabinet isn't the best idea really.

Just buy a dry cabinet. Saves you the hassle of dealing with fungus. Cheapest one is something like $100+ and can last for at least 5 years provided you don't upgrade.

yes, it is important in singapore, especially in the long-term.

How come none of my PnS cameras have any fungus growth? They have been kept inside my closet (which I am SURE has fungus on the walls) on and off for at least 8 years. Of course I use them sometimes, but they are in the cabinet maybe 80% of the time!

PNS and DSLR is a bad comparision. :D PNS u dun remove lens... there is no delicate internal like DSLR. And maybe if you open up your PNS, maybe there is fungus which you dun know? :)
