Hi all!

Am posting this request on behalf of a friend. He runs a non-profit environmental organisation. Its an urgent requirement as his other photographer pulled out.

It's for a forum for tomorrow, Sat 01 Sept, from 8pm to 6pm. This forum will be held at SMU School of Accounting Conference Hall. GOH Dr Yaacob Ibrahim will be attanding as well. Require the photographer to cover the entire forum.

I dont mind shooting properly, but you will not be getting any images for free. You should feel very lucky that Im not even charging for time! But i'll make sure thats covered in the cost of the photos!

No offence, but whats mean about whats been said? This is nothing! Infact, Ive even offered my service, ive volunteered to take it, but not for free. I think people have been very pleasant so far.

The message was put across as clearly as possible without it sounding mean, wasnt it? My message is, I ll shhot, but your not getting the images for free, how can this be put in a clearer less offensive way?

It cant.

Now if I came in and started going "What the hell, more people wanting free photographers, damn disgusting, when will people learn etc etc etc then that may be classed as mean, but justified nonetheless.

Thats way longer then I thought, your first post makes it sound like 6-8pm because of the typo.

Should have checked the website first instead of trying to figure out what you meant. I'm pulling back my offer! For 14 hours work, free is really not good enough. And for that amount of time good luck finding a free one!

If you really need one, pm me, im sure we can work something out!

I think this isn't relaly volunteering. This is FREE LABOUR. A forum on environment doens't constitute saving the environment, I don't see the volunteerism here. Whats the charity here?

If its a concert that donates all its proceeds to a charity, yes its volunteerism.
If a home needs pictures to raise money for its children/senior citizens, yes its volunteerism.

But shooting for a non-profit organization and needing someone in such a short notice? With such long hours (7am to 7pm... 12 hours min...), no incentive, don't even know who... Will you go?

Clubsnap isn't a Photography Community for outsiders to leech on photographers. Sorry for my strong remarks but I feel the injustice here. :nono:

What I'm curious to know is that in such an event where they expect free photographers, whether the other services provided, such as the food catering etc, are also free or donated by sponsors?

I think they can easily get a volunteer photographer from SMU. I believe there are many of them.

I a newbie..kenna bad experience sign up as a "volunteer". End up too many "volunteers" so they get to pick n choose and end up what??!! All the so call 'lousy' assignments is open to all and those more exclusive or interesting ones do not get to take. And there is no transport allowance and no food either!

It is from a local Uni.
