Hi! Would like to check with forum R2 users. How close does the R2 range finder able to work? 0.7m? I have a Rollei 35RF but basically a re-badge R2 that comes with a 40mm Sonnar marked up to 0.7m on focusing scale. However I have tried and also with other lens seems the range finder works up to 0.8m only.

I have tried on to focus my R2 up close and has found that 0.9m is the closet distance for reliable shots using Voigtlander lenses.

I think below 0.9m you have to zone focus

This guy has a blog and has a Rollei 35 with the 40mm Sonnar Lens. Though it is a blog about the Zeiss Ikon, he had attached the 40mm Sonnar to the Zeiss Ikon and is able to focus both the body (Zeiss Ikon) and lens (40mm Sonnar) down to 0.7m. And this is what he says about the rangefinder on the Rollei, "The rangefinder on the Rollei (and the Leica M3) disengage at 0.8 meters."

According to Stephen Gandy, the R and R2 will focus accurately all current Voigtlander lenses. There are quite a few lenses in the Voigtlander range which focus down to 0.7m. The R and R2's closest focusing distance would be 0.7m. The same goes for the R2A and R3A.

If the lens fcous distance is 0.7m then you should able to focus 0.7m from your camera rollei35. I have a R2. it is very faithful to its focus distance on the leica sumicron 5cm len. If it indicate the distance is 1m, the subject is about 1m away with the aperature of 8.

I did some more checking up. The R2 close focuses down to 0.9m in the viewfinder. But for down to 0.7m, the user would have to use scale focus. Thus Stephen Gandy is right on the money that the voigtlander lenses do focus properly on Bessa Bodies. Just that not all the information was written.

The R2a and R3a were improved to have close focusing of up to 0.7m in the viewfinder.

So a round up is in order.

Close Focusing in viewfinder:

Bessa R: 0.9m
Bessa R2: 0.9m
Rollei 35RF: 0.8m
Bessa R2a: 0.7m
Bessa R3a: 0.7m

Of course one could always use scale focus to achieve the 0.7 if the camera body is up to 0.9m or 0.8m.

Can extend the list:

Close Focusing in viewfinder:

Bessa R: 0.9m
Bessa R2: 0.9m
Rollei 35RF: 0.8m
Bessa R2a: 0.7m
Bessa R3a: 0.7m
Zeiss Ikon: 0.7m

Any Leica users can share Leica M view finder close focusing distance?

I believe my Leica M6 TTL goes to 0.6m

the older Ms, M2/3 go up to .9m only as lenses of that vintage only focused till .9m. But leicas can be adjusted to focus till .6m if needed.

I think the adjustment is 0.7 m on the camera. However, with special lenses (eg DR summicron) you can focus to 0.5 m.
