Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 II vs I on digital...

I grabbed a Zeiss 35/2 Biogon from Chiff (Chrome no less) and I'm generally happy with the lens.

I don't think my dollars can afford any Leica these days. :bsmilie:

You won't regret getting the Biogon, or the Millennium for that matter ;)

As for me buying an expensive Leica lens ... figured it was a better investment than leaving the cash in a Japanese bank and won't be happening again anytime soon :dunno::sweat:
;) I typically aim for lenses that give the best bang for buck while giving excellent performance.

It seems like Zeiss 35/2 Biogon have a bunch of happy users. Is the lack of focus tab a hindrance when it comes to focusing? Anyone tried using cable ties(el cheapo method) as focus tabs?

Never found the Zeiss tab to be of any hindrance really.

Its more of a nipple really :bsmilie:

And indeed quite nice to focus with once you're used to it!

It's a knurled nob with tactile feel to it.

Hi Ed, I just acquired the V1. I have ROR and hope to make the V1 a little more sharp. How do I clean the inner rear element? I cleaned the front and back glass, but I'm new to this. All I have to do is unscrew and get inside the rear element, maybe? Any instructions or tips?

Ed,

I have tested the Version 1 quite extensive at one point in time and having own 5 copies before settling on the current 2 copies, I will say that some batches of the V1 has lower contrast and resultant sharpness due to haze in the inner rear element. I have pointed out this to a few of the users before and I remember showing Ben Tay about this. If you clean up the lens, you'll think you have a different lens.

If you have a good copy of the V1, it's an absolute gem.

Cheers,

if you have haze in the inner rear element... i would suggest that you send it to a technician to clean. others may be more adventureous than me...

Such clarity and logic seems elusive to most I've met. I want to be your friend.

The V1 is not easy to open yourself. If you try it, there is a good chance you can't put it back together. Besides, most just use the ROR on the front and rear element. I don't find that it helps much.

Cheers,

p.s. A lot of off topic discussion here.... Nothing to do with the V1 or V2 Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2
