No more need to transcode, install codec packs, wait for the video conversion to complete before you can see your results.. just throw the .MTS file into VLC and it works!!
No I'm not here to 'push' VLC.. I'm just really happy that I can now view MTS video natively while waiting for the ingest or transcode. I've never seen native AVCHD (since nothing else could play it natively before this), and the clarity and sharpness is absolutely amazing. Transcoding always seems to cause just a little bit of softness it seems.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/, I am using their latest stable 0.9.2 release for Windows and shooting using a Canon HF100 video cam.
There are occasional video glitches when I fast forward using the seek bar, but pausing the video and re-starting fixes them.
Hopefully this will be some good news for those who have bought their shiny new AVHCD camcorders and were left without a solution to process the video. I was prepared, I have both iMovie on a Mac and another AVCHD NLE on my PC, but it's still great to be able to see it without having to wait.
BTW, VLC is open source and free. Even better.
