Hi
I don't see many vintage Leica lenses available in personal classified. Have anyone tried sourcing from online stores? If yes, can you recommend?
how 'vintage' are you looking at?
Well, you could try rangefinderforums.com too.
Truth is that it is getting increasingly hard to get these lenses, and if you do want them, you better be prepared to cough up quite a bit of cash for them.
I was looking at this site for price reference since I am still very new to Leica.
Leica 35mm Summicron Price and Information Guide
I was browsing through ebay and came across two similiar 35 Summicron pre asph with different prices as auctioned by the same seller. They are both v1 versions and are rated A/B+ for cosmetic.
Leitz Leica Summicron M 35mm /f2 Silver 8 elements 35/2 | eBay
*EX+* 8-Element* Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 *Germany* 35/F2 | eBay
The only differences I noted is this:
US$2,540 - There is slight haze and silght cleaning mark in the optics. No scratches, No fungus.
US$3,650 - There is slight scratches in the optics. No haze, no fungus.
I am not looking to buy any of these (they are expensive if i reference it to the price guide), but just want to understand why there is a $1k price differences here..Does it got to do with the haze?
Thanks for the clarifications.
wat i do gather is that haze is no-go. someone told me that once you get haze on the elements, it is kinda permanent(?). so, forget those. cleaning marks... i think for vintage lenses, it is pretty common.
there are some occasional bargains on ebay, especially from those HK resellers. i did come across 50 lux pre-ASPH v1 for abt USD1800+. but yah... for some strange reason, leica lenses are in short supply even for old bangers... i did some sums recently and decided to forgo getting a 50 lux pre-ASPH cos the costs is really not worth it. dun forget you also need to pay GST once the package arrives. you can save a bit, if you have frens there to help you buy and ask them to ship it to you as 'gift' or something. YMMV...

Good feedback on the haze part. Thanks!
Hi NazgulKing,
yes, looking at the asking prices for the summicron 35 pre asph, the prices are not much diff from the ASPH now.

I think if the ASPH lenses aren't much more expensive, I'd rather go for a relatively newer lens. Many of the old Leica lenses are plagued with issues, especially anything more than 40 years old.
If it is declared as a gift, will you be able to claim insurance for full value if something goes wrong *touch wood* during the posting?
