Hi all,

Noticed the following on my 7hi..

1) am using those normal Hoya HMC 49mm UV filter
2) set exp to 1/1500, F3.5
3) Starting from Widest...
I noticed slight vignetting on top right hand corner...
4) as I zoom in.. to ard 35-50 mm, I get INCREASING vignetting.. (VERY VERY OBVIOUS)
5) as I past that 35-50mm range.. vignetting is gone

Hmm, is that normal?

Also experienced it on my fren's 7i :(

I don't understand, why do you get increased vignetting as you move along the 35-50mm range?

I have a Hoya skylight filter, no vignetting. I do have a 49mm Hoya circular polariser that causes vignetting at 28 mm wide-angle.

For my case at least, one way to get around this is possibly to get a step-up ring, then get a filter with a bigger thread, or buy the thin circular polariser.

You'll probably get vignetting from most 49mm filters.
Only those very thin one then will be ok.
Try the Minolta 49mm filter. That one's ok.

If you using PLs, even with 55mm you'll get vignetting.

There is only two left at the Minolta showroom now. :D

How does the minolta 49mm one compare to the hoya super hmc one ah?

but a bit funny that 28mm got little vignetting.. then it gets MORE vignets until past a certain range.., right?

For polariser, i'm using 62mm .. so no worries ;p

someone was telling me that the lens is closer to the front at 28mm.. as compared to 35-50mm range..

andy, u juz can't resist right? :P how much is it selling anyway ah?

The Minolta 49mm is thinner and yet has filter thread for stack ons.
Think only available in UV and skylight.

I am surprise to hear about 35-50 getting worse, I don't recall facing
that problem myself. For me around 28 was the worse.

Andy certainly couldn't resist : He called me while I am in NZ to tell me that the stock has arrived!! LOL
