Hello,

I'm looking for microphone to be used to make a travel/info show video that will involve a host talking and also interviewing the subject.

I've not used any external mic before, except see them in use on TV. I figured I will need some sort of external mic (instead of just the built-in mic) for this type of video to get better audio, and need some advice/recommendation on this. My videocam will be a XH-A1 and will be doing this alone.

Should I be using:

1. a shotgun mic, or
2. a lavalier mic (hope i'm using this term correctly).
3. or both types at same time.

p/s: btw, I'm from Kuching/Sarawak and wants to do some info/travel-type of video on local places of interest/culture/art of the locals :p

Hope to hear from you all.

If its a one man ops you can decide between the talent holding a mic (with wires to XLR input on one channel, the other recording ambient), or mounting a wireless lavalier mic to one channel.

Sennheiser is probably a sound choice. They have the G2 or G3 for this purpose. ITs hands free, no messy cables to deal with when you are alone. However it needs setup time.

I'm not sure what is a good wired mic thou. The adv is u can really move run and gun. Get a cable that is just nice, and the talent holds the mic while you shoot.

Thanks engr for the feedback.

I'm leaning more towards wireless but a cable + mic for the interview might be a good choice as suggested :)
