My friend wants to edit his home and holiday trips. He has about 20 tapes (mini DV) that he wants to edit and convert to 2 DVDs about 1.5 hrs each with chapter selection. Those interested please PM me your price and editing software used. Submission deadline is not an issue but should preferably be not more than 1 month.

Let me openly give you my quote.

20miniDV tapes shot in SP mode will take 20 hours of digitise/capture time.
Editing the footage down to 3 hours, split over two DVDs, will take at least another 10-20 of hours of work.

Based on professional rates that I do for broadcast travel programs, I normally quote about S$4k (based on an estimate of 40 hours required at S$100/hr) for post production time.

Given that this is a non-broadcast job for personal usage, plus this job is not a rush job,
I am quoting you a low rate of S$2.5k for the whole editing package.

Your friend can choose to sit in the whole edit session with me, clock only the hours that we spend working on the edit, or leave the entire project to me, have a viewing session + 1 round of amendments before I master to DVD.

Payment terms:
50% on start of project, remaining 50% on completion of DVD.
Footage tapes & Edited Master will be returned upon receipt of full payment.

Editing will be done on either Avid or Final Cut Studio, depending on which facility I can free up for the work. ;)

Perhaps you might want to quote your budget so that people here know what to expect.

Thanks for the quote...I have already got a student willing to do at $1k.

Thanks for letting students have the opportunity to work.
I'm quite sure we all started somewhere.

Reason for me to openly quote is to let CSers who are in to video production know more about the actual market rates....hope fellow media practitioners do realise the value, the trade and the skills involved in our area of work.

UPzz for you DXNMedia.

The value of our trade has taken a serious hit over these years due to under cutting and "freelancers" out to make a quick buck from their hobby.

Thanks for standing up :)

20 tapes for 1k?
1 tape = 1000/20 = $50 :o
$50 includes an hour of digitizing + editing + buring to DVD + machine running hour... the number of hours spend..
wow you got it just $1k.. u got a cheap duel man.. hopefully good quality as well. much under mkt rate

happy editing!

Bro Sundazz.....he'll realise that his poor little DV cam will die after running 20x DV tapes thru the poor little consumer DV drumhead that's not designed to take such 'abuse', and he'll realise that sending it for servicing or buying a new one will probably cost him how much he had earned. :P And if 1 tape in miniDV LP mode, then good luck....1.5 hours per tape! :bsmilie:

Maybe we can start to sub out digitising work to these guys if we are working in DV resolution. Might be a lot cheaper and we'd save digitise time on our machines...but then again, they may screw up timecodes & compression/field settings.

:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Well...hope he is smart enough to choose the footage he need to digitize..else

20 tapes x 60min/tape = 1200 min x 60 sec/min = 72000 sec x 3.5 mb/sec = 252000 mb or 246 gb of storage...

1/4 of 1 tb storage...no need to do other project liao. or may end up need to buy new harddisk just for the project. :)

that nevermind....wait the client is picky and asks him why my favourite part in dunno-what-tape-number isn't included, and I wish it to be included.....IT MUST BE INCLUDED....

Then if it isn't captured, he'll have to spool thru the whole 20 tapes again just to find that part... ;p

Then after spooling thru a few more times, the miniDV suffers from tape dropout....then die liao lor.. footage cannot be captured, and compliations will arise.

;)

*grasp* imagine using my xl2 as a deck!..

but to be honest, 1k seems alot. haha.
But if you factor in the hospital bills for your camera (unless u have a deck) u profit nothing. :P

Lets move to another thread :P

Regards

it's ok it's ok...i think he will survive...and will enjoy the what he earn.:)

Sigh. There is a certain standard and professionalism that one pays for when hiring an experienced professional. The point about the deck is so revelant.
