Hello all,

I'm so glad that a section is set up for Video works. I'm an undergrad and i'm currently doing my BA(Hons) Advertising Design at Lasalle SIA, Singapore. I do not have high end equiptments like a HDV Camera but i do wish to use it someday. Now i work only with a Sony Handycam which i feel is capable of producing works of high standards. Anyway, my software arsenals for video-editing are Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe AfterEffects 7. I used to use softwares like the ULEAD Videostudio but later realised thier immense restrictions on the creative side of my work. I hope to be posting some of my works on this side. So yes.. look out for it!

Stick on to Adobe and you will not go wrong, definately one of the best out there (Provided you spend time learning how to use it). Sony Vegas looks interesting too...

I find SD is currently good enough for masses, as for HDV, it will only be a major force in 2010, according to my "personal studies", current HDV equipment are really too expensive and to do HD editing is even much more taxing on the NLE systems, you may need to overhaul your current system.

Will be awaiting for your works. all the best:thumbsup:

Thanks for the advice devilboy. I agree too that adobe is most probably the best out dere. They even bought over macromedia. LOL. Well.. Do comment on my works.. I'm still learning and would appreciate constructive crititism.

Cheers!

Bro.. do one movie... cast & crew all from clubsnap videos... you can be actor and director and videoman... same goes to everyone else... ZERO budget, Zero payment, all done and fuel by Passion. Just need one thing.... script and the rest can be plan and execute.
This leads me to the film "El Mariachi", the director have virtually zero budget, he only have 1 8mm film and a skateboards, all the cast and crew are from his relatives and friends... but it become a phemonenal success in North and South Africa. And he finally become one of famous director in the hollywood **Robert Rodriguez Although he produce quite poor production nowadays, but he still made it thru the fuel of passion.

HDV is definately here to stay, the format 1920 X 1080 is the future of video. However, currently it does not have enough appeal for most people (Pro and Consumer) to adopt.
You will need some real raw power to process the videos, you will also need a blue-ray or a HD DVD to create the DISC and finally, a BR/HD DVD player to play the videos... Most experts and pros following the situation will know that 2010 or later, HD DVD & BR will overtake the current DVD. Anyway, for those who are looking into BlueRay and HD DVD player and burners, just wait a little longer, there is news on unified HD DVD BlueRay...

HDV is not HD, but a in between format to help consumer SD to hop unto the HD bandwagon. Don't be confuse with pro level HD which is about 20% hogher in resolution where the horizontal lines are at least 1440 not 1080 (interlaced or 720 progressive). The future will go towards 1080p and 1440p.

Until the current consumer market pricing catches on CTV will be still be around for a while thus SD will still be popular and affordable for the general public. Just to imagine that about 20 years ago when HDTV was introduced by SONY, it cost about USD250k for a 40" set. Now it's less than SGD2k for a similar screen size but smaller and thinner.

Until the current consumer market pricing catches on

at worst sg goes full hdtv in two years but my guess is it will take about five to eight years before that happens.

than again, how many people will have the hardware to playback what you produce.

just like the days of vcd and the emergence of dvd. even though dvd is a better format, many people still stick with vcd due to the price of dvd players.

this went on for a good two to three years before we made a decision to stop producing and spoiling our video productions in vcd format and delivered in dvd only. it did a world of good for our clients and ourselves.

Lets' be please with this.... take a look at photography, the megapixel never ends... 5 MP this year, 6~8 next year... equipment upgrade is quite a hassle and not to forget painful.
DVD resolution have being fixed for a long long time, its only recently HDV is being involved that the resolution changes, moreover there is alliance agreement among manufactor standards on the resolution...Phew, think about this, if the resolution changes like Digital Camera... I think Video biz is difficult to survive.

Yeah sg won't be ready 4 HD till 2010 and to change a whole system of SD to HD is not cheap ! we talking bout millions of dollars ! but for hdv its cheaper lah of course ! for 1st timer not necessarily buy an hdv cam just get a camera wif 25p capability is good enough, e.g xl2,agdvx 102 but for dvx 62 i really dun't like its handling u will have a viewfinder sticking to your eyes kinda uncomfortable for me !

maybe can cume down for gathering sume time ! coffee anyone?

erhmm... but if i'm not wrong, they are actually playing with this hd channel option for selected people liao... next yr will come out bah... so i dun think will take till 2010 bah... also for hd, to enter into hd, we need not wait for TCS or watever to go FULLY hd first mah...(i mean, if you wanna eat good food, must wait for other people to eat first, then you can eat meh?... better you eat all the good food first, let other people follow you and eat the crumps) also nowadays lotsa wedding video people going around using hdv tell everyone that they're hd... sian man... anyway just crapping...

2010 is just a speculation, in order to fully love HD, its not cheap... You need a really good Plasma or LCD to enjoy the full function, next, you also need a player (BlueRay or HD DVD) to play the HDV videos...

As for videographers (especially part timers)... to make HD DVD for customers is no joke.
1) The CPU system (Almost the same price of the one below or maybe higher)
2) The Camera (HDV Cam is extremely expensive ($6~10K), I am only refering to those 1980 X 1080, not Pro HD)

I think I can only offer FULL HDV services in 2008, that will easily cost me $20K...PHEW

There are only a few cameras out there that capture 1920x1080. Most cameras do not capture to that resolution and are still considered HD (see HDCAM and DVCPRO HD). I don't see why HDV cannot be considered HD. No doubt it is a sucky format to work with but when it is played out to a HD capable display, it is 1920x1080.

I will consider HDV as comsumer HD, if you ever tried a PRO HD, the colours and picture quality is really amazing, stuff like Sony XDCAM series. In video, the clarity & quality is very important.
Take a 10 MP PNS and a 10MP DSLR, which on will have a better output & performance??? No doubt, its DSLR... same as HDV vs HD and this bring us to the earlier stage where MiniDV vs SD... but ultimately, the best performer out there are those 8/16/35mm rolling film camera with rotormotor, thats to me is truely first class, no digital current can match its' performance and output, but than again, this is already a level beyond us... we are talking about Hollywood productions.

The best is, when customers ask, just educate them on what you produce and be honest, better than one fine day one guy comes and say, my friend hor... say your work not HD leh... hahahahahaha:thumbsup:
