Video archival

I had a bunch of old video taken when cassette tapes were the recording media. These produces large video files though the video quality were hardly HD. I am currently saving them in MKV format using H.268 format. Like to check if these are the best ways to archive old videos while not forgoing on the quality.

MKV is a relatively large size format. Although it is a good quality format, I personally won't use it. Since the files are from the cassettes itself, can't expect crisp sharp quality. I'll go with MOV or AVI, H.264.
