vertical grip for alpha 330

can the new a230/330 battery cover be removed like old 200/300s?

if can, then there is hope. sony wldn't give up any chance to increase their coffers volumes. furthermore, the smaller fh50 has lesser juice than old series, the vert grip now has more importance ie carry more batts for longer duration shoots.
There is misconception: the A200/300/350 series has not been replaced by 230/330/380. Sony probably decides to segment the market further to
1. PNS upgraders who wants a DSLR because their friends take very good pictures with DSLR, so they need that themselves too. So the A230/330/380 address that market. These users do not want the VG, G or CZ lens, they probably don't understand or care that these accessories exists.
2. Hobbist who wants a photographic tool (most people in CS). A200/300/350 used to be able to meet the demands of these users (A100 was even better). The A230/330/380 is not intended for you. Please wait a few more months to see if there is a new A500 or A700 replacement. These probably will be fulfilling your needs more and will have VG, high-end lens and other accessories to help you make Sony rich. (This is assuming that Sony has some business sense and the set will probably be priced above A380)

So if the A230/330/380 is a crap camera, you are right because they were not intended for a customer like you! Wait for whatever that is coming in the second half of the year.

There IS a vertical grip for A2xx/3xx

It's just not available in SG.

Model: VG-B30AM - http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsa-vertical-control-grip/vg-b30am

Just check the accessories brochure that came with your cam. duh. =3

You can try Sony Malaysia, they have lots of stuff that we don't. Just send them an email and maybe contact and make your way down to one of the Sony stores to reserve/purchase...or:

Sony Style Tebrau Jusco - 7 354 6177
Sony Centre Pelangi - 7 331 6488
Sony Centre Bukit Indah Jusco - 7 236 6530

that for the older 200 and 300 series, not the newer series.

The Rokinon grip looks suspiciously like an Ownuser grip.

See here: http://www.ownuser.com.tw/e_sony_a380.html

Its been around for quite a while I remember seeing it about 4-5 months back on their (Ownuser) website.

Lau Digital at High Street Road Centre is the distributor for Ownuser in Singapore. Contact them to check if they have stock. http://www.laudigital.com.sg

Happy Hunting.

I don't see why the A230-380 aren't intended for hobbyist. A hobbyist can also take awesome photos with a PnS. Plus, A230-380 offer all the necessary functions of a DSLR. Kinda subjective. I have taken awesome photos with A330 and I don't think it's a crappy camera. One reason I would get a better one would be because I need a magnesium body and also, a bigger camera to hold.

Nah, he's just lumping all 'hobbyist' into the 'experienced with higher requirements' category.

Think he forgets that there are different levels of 'hobbyists'
