Using External Viewfinder

Hey guys,

Just curious. I've never tried using external viewfinders. However, composing with 28mm framelines on the M6 is a pain cos I wear glasses.

How does an external viewfinder work? Would getting one help?

Thanks!

Cheers...

I only use it for my 15mm CV, otherwise I find it too troublesome to focus through the VF and then compose through the external VF for longer lenses. With wide and slow lenses the DOF is quite big so don't have to use RF focus. If you shoot a lot of small apertures then you probably won't mind too.

Using external viewfinders are always just estimates. But the wider it gets, the less parralex.
I used to use 28mm and 35mm external finders on a leica iiig. The 28mm is tolerable, but the 35mm missed by noticable margins. However being on film sometimes you just forget your original intended framing.

The zeiss 25/28 is the best finder i have seen, and i have used many 28mm finder from voigtlander to grd finders, leica turrets and canons.

Alternatively, you can ask leica sg to upgrade your finder to a .58x one, which is the best for 28mm. Upgrade to mp finder was 700... Not sure about .58 though.

I use the Voigtlander zoom viewfinder. Nifty thing. Zoom from 15mm to 35mm. Metal. Easier to hold.

I use a Zorki (a copy of the original Contax turret finder on my Zorki 4K and Canon P. There is a parallax adjustment
