USA Intl Warranty

Hi everyone,

Have you ever wonder what does Canon accessories and lenses with bought in the US with warranty means?
It states Intl. warranty (top lists USA / Canada) but does not list the other countries under the warranty cards unlike stuff w/ warranty bought in HK.

According to SG Canon customer rep (over the phone), he states that it must list the country in the warranty card. Whereas the US Canon sales rep states that it should be able to be used in most countries...

So who's wrong and who's right?

from what i know
warranty cards here (USA) are almost useless
receipts are the most important thing to get anything fixed at CPS
but for returns, you need everything intact in the box.

canon USA retailers hardly ever stamp the card (not that i know of)

Do you think we'll get free servicing in Singapore or somewhere else in the world? After all, the warranty claims to be intl. warranty.

I think Wolfe and Ritz camera provide stamping... but not if you buy their stuff thru Amazon or 3rd party online stores.

canon us warranty are usally belong to US only. i hve asked amazon.com on warranty.. they replied that it is valid in US only..

Canon can check the location of the product by its serial no.. so u can fake it..

of cos canon do repair their own lens @ a fee...

i am not sure if you can get free servicing.
singapore CPS requires the warranty card to be with you
you can always make a hoo ha and see if they will repair it =)

in any case.
if you are located in SD, get it replaced/repaired in the states
its easier and less of a hassle.

Yah, I will try the "hoo ha" if something goes wrong when I'm in Singapore.

International warranty for lenses and accessories (NOT cameras) is valid. I've bought and serviced several Canon lenses bought in Canada. You need only the warranty card and original receipt.

I think the issue is not who's right and who's wrong. If you intend to bring the items back to Singapore, you should ensure that whatever warranty you get is acceptable to Canon Singapore, regardless of whether they are right or wrong on the construction of the warranty certificate issued in the US. If the warranty is truly international, then I find it puzzling to list only USA and Canada. Make sure it is not limited to these two countries or that Singapore is listed.

1 way is to insist on International warranty whenever purchasing canon products..
