Urgent Help Needed: Problem with my Olympus OM-1n SLR

Hi guys, I'm using an Olympus OM-1n for a few months now. Everything was fine until yesterday. There seem to be a problem with the frame counter. Sometimes it won't move when i advance the lever.

Can i check with you guys.

a) If no film is loaded , will the number move when we trigger the shutter or will it stay at blank or E?

b) after unloading a film, will the counter automatically move to E or blank? I checked the manual it states this. Whenever the camera back is opened, the exposure counter automatically returns to "S". However, when I opened the back of my camera, it will always go back to blank (the position between E and S) However there were two instances when it when back frame 34 oddly and just won't advance. (there was no film inside)

c) In such a case whereby the frame shows 34 and I need to load a new film, what do I do? Move the lever to S and load a film?

Few minutes ago, I played around without film and advanced 14 frames. However when I opened the back, the counter remained at 14 when it's supposed to reset. I took a few more shots till frame 20. Upon opening the back of the camera, the counter moved back to 16.

Does anyone know what's the problem. Is something stuck inside?

Thanks in advance.

There is a counter reset button, near the film advance level, in between the light-seal slot. Like a small metal button. You try to use a pen or something similar to press it down (basically that is what happens when the camera back is closed). If the counter can go back to S, which is the normal operation, then probably there is something stuck in this reset button, prevent it to go down fully...

If you can not find the reset button, PM me your email so that I can send you a picture of it :)

hey , thanks for your response. You mean if i can push it down, it is supposed to reset back to S right?

I have a friend who responded to the same query.

He directed me to the same button i supposed. Is this the one?

I tried depressing the button but the counter won't change. Do you know where I can get it repaired quick?

One response stated:

---As soon as the camera back is opened, the frame counter rotates back to S automatically. It stays at S until the back is closed, even when using the advance lever. ---

That is what it should do. Closing the back engages a catch which stops the film-counter from resetting to S by spring-force. With the back open it will obviously stay on S. Sounds to me there is a minor problem with the catch, but I'd hardly call it tragic. There are a number of specialist OM repairers who can probably fix the fault almost immediately.

Need it urgently for school :(

Yes, that's the button. You press it down, then release it to see if the frame counter goes back to S.
