The first 12 seconds is too long. Nothing interesting for the first part till the text comes out. If you can, use 3D software like Maya, 3ds max or element 3D (for AE) to have a 3D model of an earth and animating the camera in 3D space, giving it more a dynamic camera movement.

What's the difference? I can't tell.
If it's going to be actually used for a serious project, neither. It's clearly too derivative.

But if it's a specific effect going to be used for a one-off clip that deliberately references the original, then either one is fine I suppose, as I can't tell the difference.
