Universal Dolly

I saw one that looks like the Tiffen at Cathay Marina. Expandore has the bigger one from a japanese brand.

No offence, but i really hate these dollys, they're about as useful as doilies. (google doily)

they're really a case of you get what you pay for, a lil bump on the ground and it will screw up your shot. even a joint in carpeted floor will measure 7.8 on the Richter scale.

So, what is it that you suggest ?
I'd like to hear some brand or type if you wish to share ;p

depending on the budget and nature of your shoots,

- hollywood microdolly, reasonable price, quick set up, disadvantage is u cant use on uneven ground,

- hong kong dolly, pretty expensive, can use on dirt track if you have a good Grip set it up for you, disadvantage damn bulky, takes awhile to set up

- sliders, pretty cheap, easy set up, no ground consideration, disadvantage can't track very long distance

Save yourself a bundle and head for Lau Marketing at High Street Centre. They have Velbon DL-11 dolly selling for $97. Less than a kg and spread is adjustable. Caveat is the castors are those hopeless plastic ones used on cheap office chairs. But you will appreciate the velbon once you change the castors! For skidding on wood laminate, marble flooring, substitute with larger urethane wheels from Kelantan Lane hardware stores. For use with 1'5" PVC pipe tracks, substitute with a smaller double cheapo plastic grooved castors from IKEA. The grooved castors balance well on PVC pipes; no need for 90-degree brackets.
