Can anyone clear my doubts, when I see ads which mentioned the item comes with unfiled warranty card, to the buyer, what does it means?

I mean if u do not fill it up and send to the manufacturer, it means the item is not under warranty right? And also, usually the clause is there for the warranty card to be mailed out within 1-2weeks, so for items which are a couple of months old with unfiled warranty cards, doesn't it means that the items are practically NOT under any warranty?

I would be better off with one which is bought at relatively the same time, but had sent in the warranty card, at least there's a couple of months' warranty leftover isn't it?

Man, am i confused now...

Over the years, buyers of all items have become very 'smart', thinking that if the warranty is not fill, the warranty would not start, and fill it once the warranty is need.

Manufacturers are human too... They are buyers too... That's why, nowadays the sellers would write the date of purchase on the warranty card and leave the other details blank for the buyers to fill in, otherwise, there is a 7 days 1 to 1 exchange policy, the warranty card is left unfilled. Notwithstanding, the buyers were asked to keep the receipt which has the date of purchase printed.

I personally, have encountered many times, with various manufacturers; eg Canon, Olympus, Nokia, LinkSys, Apple, etc asking for receipt instead of warranty card as the proof of purchase. One incident when I was in Canon Service Center, despite that the 10D is merely less than 3 months old, and with valid warranty card, the CSO asked me for receipt. With that one can follow the clauses in the warranty card and mail within 1-2weeks.

But one word of caution, unfilled warranty card, in my opinion is as useless as a piece of blank paper as long as your DON'T have a valid receipt (PROOF OF PURCHASE).

Once i met up with someone who's selling a secondhand camera. That person kept insisting that i can fill up the warranty with today's date and send it. That camera is almost one year old already, and she did not even have the receipt. She thought that when the camera is sent for servicing, only the warranty card needs to be shown. Of course, i showed that fellow the clause behind the card that said the warranty will only be effective when the receipt. :)

FYI, I bought my Sigma lens for servicing before, and they did request for both the receipt and warranty card.

yeap dont bother when pple say the warranty card is unfilled bec w/o a receipt as proof of purchase n date it prob will not be recognised by manufacturers..

When I sell my second hand items within warranty period, I carry on the warranty for the guy who buys from me. E.g. my video cam with extended warranty has coverage for 3 years. I sould at 11 months. When the camera fails, the guy who buys it will send the camera in for repair under my name. But being Panasonic and I having registered the unit number, they do not need the sales receipt, warranty card and extended warranty card, all the info has been entered into their database.

If an item is still under warranty, it doesn't matter who is the owner, because the owner can always call his employee to bring an item to the repair shop. Minimally warranty card duky filled and a valid receipt.
