My friend brought back E520 from HK, he asked me to check it out.
Well, initial impression about this new camera is that its focus speed is super fast. It is even faster than the Canon 20D I tried before. Compared to my E500, it simply beat it flat in every areas.
Good work Olympus! Keep it up! Now I also itching to get this new camera body...;p

any other things you noticed that has been improved?

tried both 420 and 520 on last Sunday hands on Oly event...
most of the features are similar to our E510 loh...
the big difference.....live view

can do live view auto-focus by pressing the shutter half-way...
also face-recognition (ok....i didn't tried this out.....was told by keith instead)

otherwise....it's quite similar loh.

yea,i noticed that when i played with it at Harvey last week, nothing much diff hor?biggest diff is colour on the camera,as in the buttons all these, and the auto focus which needs no mirror flip down, kind of a plus, but still,E-510,my first DSLR :bsmilie:

the 0.2 inch bigger screen not noticable actually, other than that, about the same leh.....I'm curious if there is any none instantly recognisable difference

Not sure how is it compared to E510. I never own one. But this E520 does come with 11 point AF suppose to be as fast as E3? Also wider dynamic range & better WB(as compare with my E500). With the kit lens(17-50mm?) it is quite fast. When used 14-54mm even faster. I wonder how fast it can go when paired with 12-60mm:bigeyes:
One thing for sure when it is paired with good lens it will shows its muscles!!

tempted to upgrade already la,wah lao,never mind,wait for E-3 replacement,or get E-3,XD

E3 is definitely out, bcoz of it size( & weight). All I want is a camera small enough, but offer performance close to E3. In my opinion the E520 + 12-60mm make an ultimate travel combo!!

The E-520 AF is faster as compare to E-510. The 11 points AF is Contrast Detection not Phrase Difference Detection as you would find in E-3. If you are moving from E-510 to E-520 my view is that you wouldn't gain much from it...

Frankly, E-3 AF is still the fastest, at least in Olympus' current range of dSLR.

Just my 2 cents worth of opinion...

Using E510 + 12-60mm SWD....the result.... fast!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

ya...i do agree...moving from E510 to 520 wouldn't gain much...probably my next upgrade will be E3 or E3 replacement....

i just for my last evening. not sure if u guys expereince the same problem as me... i was testing the camera in my room which has yellow lights. on live view mode the LCD shows black and white but the pictures comes out color. is that normal?

other then that, i like the camera and the functions and the simplicity of the of using the camera. i am surprise by comments i read from other threads the Oly's menu is complicated. I am a Canon user myself bought this a backup camera. the pix quality is also very nice....

ya...your camera is "normal"
it's called live view boost...you can find in the menu and switch on/off
basically the surrounding light is not enough to view in live view...so it is shown in black and white instead.

For me,E-3 is small, because of my size :bsmilie:

That is a normal feature,as mskong explained,it is called live view boost, because when you take a photo, let's say,in a room with only light coming from your computer screen, taking a photo using manual focus will really piss you off,so switching to live view, same thing, therefore, the camera kinda boosts up everything and turns everything black and whie so that you can see much more clearly and do precise manual focus in the dark, bascially, all E-system cameras with live view will have this,no worries

thanks bros for your quick reassuring msg. THis is my first Oly and i am very happy with it... looks like i will be leaving my Canon home now..... :)

haven't had to chance to handle the 520... but are the buttong like the E3 with the soft touch? or still like the 510 with the "tiak" feeling? i love the way the buttons are made on the E3...

If the picture quality is close to the E3. Its worth the upgrade :)
