Hi

What would be a good and relatively inexpensive tripod for a Dynax 7 with a Tamron 24-135SP lens and a 17-35 Sigma EX lens? Both the lens are quite heavy. My little Giottos cannot take the weight when the camera is mounted vertically. My budget is around $200. Preferably if it can include a ballhead, otherwise, panhead also can lar! Basically I am looking for the next step or 2 steps up from those sub 1Kg tripods.....

Please advice! Thanks a lot!

sub 1kg tripod to carry load of >1.5kg of camera and lenses?? Wow, I think u are looking at carbon fibre body tripod? If so, definitely more than $200.

Slik and Manfrotto sell wonderful bodies at <$200, but are between 1-1.5kg. However, only Manfrotto bodies allow u to get ball head, which will cost quite a bit and probably add up to more than $200. Currently, Slik bodies come with heads, but these are pan and tilt heads, not ball heads. Old Slik bodies came without heads, but I don't think u can get new Slik bodies without heads.

Slik Pro 330/340DX, Slik Pro700 and Manfrotto 190 + ballhead are all applicable around your budget. Just note that the weight would be about 2KG.

Get a tripod only if you intend to take really critically sharp pictures, or for long exposures.

Depends on what your photographic needs are.

Buy what you need and not what you want and you'll never regret making a purchase.

Different folks, different strokes.;)

I agree....... that's also why I've decided on the grip ecept that I can't get it...... it's a lot more convenient and more stable with a heavy lens and my hand dun get tired so easily from adopting awkward positions lar......... :D
