Excellent & well done ! You did alot of slow motion shot ... you did it in post production ?

Cannot wait to watch the final clip.

Btw, what is the title of the music ? Can purchase in iTunes ?

Thanks

NIcely done. Glad you took full advantage of the PJ660's slo-mo mode! Did you pack a variable ND for your trip?

Thanks for the encouragement. Thanks for your advice all these while too Ryan!

Slow mo is built in feature of Sony HDR-660 EV (SGD 1480). 3 seconds clip that slow mo to 10 secs. (recommended by Rodney of Bamboo Pictures).

Music is from Pond5.com - Cinematic Trailer 36 (USD 7.00)

Thanks for your guidance! Cannot thank you enough.

No. I was lacking in ND. I packed a CPL but it didnt seem to work. The built in feature seems to automatically compensate everytime i put a CPL. Wanted to ask you about this.

I had alot of blown highlights. So, CPL cannot be used w video?

To put the PJ660 in full manual, set the three onscreen control buttons to Shutter speed, Auto gain control, WB and set the Manual dial (on front of camera) to AE shift. you can then control all three of these in conjunction without the camera reverting to auto.

I tried but didnt get good results. I was thinking it was because of the small sensor? Or was it because i only tried to use (1) Manual Focus and (2) Iris (Large). I couldnt get the ideal OOF background like what i get on a D800.

Think i need to try again... haha

PJ660 will always set auto exposure unless you are in manual mode for the shutter speed, and Auto Gain Control (steps of 6dB). Once Shutter and AGC is "locked" the AE control is forced to change only the iris (aperture)
If you try to set the iris and the shutter manually, the camera compensates with AGC. It will drive you nuts.
Actual focal length of the lens is 3.8mm to 38mm. Very difficult to get shalloe DOF. Having put the camera through the paces, you know this is a great documentary-style camera. In a time before HDSLR, videographers have to contend with the ENG look or use shallow DOF adapter to attach 35mm lenses. Brands like Letus, JAG35 first made their debut selling these converters. Today, I don't think anyone would use 35mm DOF adapters because you get better results in a smaller package if you just packed a tiny M4/3 kit. I still have a Letus35 mini which I keep as a memento of those "in-between" years.

U mean you took/record a real time clip in 3 secs & when you download it, it is auto to 10 secs ?

Bamboo, does GH3 have this features ?

Thanks

I see.

The weight of the PJ 660 seems easier to handle. I am tempted to ditch my entire Nikon gears for the Sony a7r. Haha

You are one of the more helpful guys on this section. I learnt alot from your replies to others too.

Yes, the slow mo in the PJ660 is only 3 seconds. So you got to time it carefully. The buffer (after recording) is frustrating. I estimate about 15 seconds to officially record. So if you are working w people, its hard to tell them that they got to repeat the post. haha. The final output of the 3 sec capture is a 10 second slow mo.

I read somewhere that the Sony FS 700 is a 7 or 10 second capture only. So, i think the PJ660 isnt that bad considering the price. haha

Come to Sony. Heh heh!

I have checked that my GH3 at most can slowed down to only 40%.

Would you prefer to slow down while recording (like what you did here) or slow it down in post-production ?

U mean such an expensive video camera like FS700 can only record slow mo for only 7 secs (of real time) ?

Thanks

Thanks Bamboo.

Can I ask why must use twixtor to slow down in post production ?

Thought can do that it Premiere Pro or Final Cut ?

Thanks

Twixtor is a bit more intelligent and comes closer to smoothness of real overcranked video minus the telltale ghosting in optical flow.

I read so much about Twixtor but wasnt successful in using their trial version. Its certainly on my to-do list asap.

btw Rodney, do we have to shoot in 60 fps to optimise twixtor?

Not necessary but results will be better since there are more reference frames. There is no significant advantage if you are just slowing down 40-50%

I am using a 3 year old MacBook Pro w 8 GB ram. Not sure if it was the interface or my laptop, I gave up after a while. Haha
