Trade S9500 for S6500FD?

I am thinking of trading my S9500 for S6500FD as I am attracted to the 2.5 inch LCD and face detection. I don't think I need 9MP and I don't use the hot shoe.

Before I decide on this, I understand that the EVF on the S6500 is smaller and has much lower resolution than the S9500/9600. Has anyone tried both and can comment? Anyone else has similar idea?

It doesn't matter anyway even if it was. You're better off using the LCD for everything - EVFs are a joke whichever why you look at it - pun not intended.

The EVF on S9500/9600 is 0.44 inch 235,000 pixels, I think the EVF on S6500 is 0.33 inch 115,000 pixels. I found it harder to hold the camera steady when using the LCD. The 2.5 inch LCD is very good for playback.

i suggest u keep ur 9500
the 2.5 inch LCD is only a good-to-have, and i think the face detection issnt very useful imo.

I just did a side-by-side comparison for both cameras, I realized that the 6500 is a larger camera than the 9500, weird (is being larger in style now?). Anyway, from the needs you mentioned and what you dont need on the S9500, yes, it does seem like a reasonable "downgrade" for you.

Speaking of EVF and LCD, I dont know about the S6500, but does it also allow you to bump the refresh rate to 60fps like the S9500 do? Maybe you dont need it, but it's one of those bigger factors for me.

Any EVF is a joke as they cannot compare with an OVF (no matter how good the resolution is on them), unless the OVF is really small and dim. I've used EVFs since tiny TV tube ones on old video cameras to colour LCD ones on late model videocams and dislike them all.

I've tried the EVF of the 9600, 6500 and 5600. And they all fail miserably for me and are no match for a decent OVF.

There was a recent thread I've read (I can't remember if it was a CS thread) where the someone did a comparison of pics taken between the 6500 and 9600. The 6500 came out better of the two (noise wise) right up to 3200ISO.

So if image quality is important to you - the move to the 6500 is an upgrade.

Most EVFs show 100% coverage of the final image, as compare to OVF. But also having other limitations such as low resolutions.

I prefers 6500 although I seldom use the face detection system.
IMHO, this camera's photo quality, esp in low light conditions, are better than many other cam I used before (including 9500 & 9600).

S6500fd has better noise performance than S9500/9600 because it has fewer no. of pixels on about the same size image sensor.

9MP >6MP is of not much use because the limitation is in the lens in many situations where more pixels would simply give your more noise but not more details.

Face detection is of not much use in most situation too if you know how to focus and recompose.

If shooting at ISO 800 and 1600 is important to you and external flash hot-shoe is not important, then it makes sense to prefer the S6500fd.

How about the tilting LCD monitor in the S9500/9600? Don't have in S6500fd? Tilting LCD monitor is useful when taking pictures high angle above your head or low angle down near the floor. Other than that, it's much more steady to shoot using the EVF because you have some support by pressing the camera against your eyes. So I always shoot using the EVF and only use the LCD monitor in peculiar situations where using the EVF is not possible. Many noobs with prosumers cameras still like to use the LCD monitor because they're used to their previous small PnS without any view finder except the LCD monitor. That's why they got handshake blur even when 1/actual focal length guideline is followed and handheld.

The LCD monitor is more suited for picture review to check composition and exposure histogram (but not sharpness) immediately after a snap.

FD is useful in situations where you have to hand the camera to stranger(who knows nothing of locking focus and recomposing) to have him/her take a photo of you. i.e. when you are on holiday or when your aunt is taking the photo.

Other than that, it's not necessary if you've used AF cameras before.

FD is useful in situations where you have to hand the camera to stranger(who knows nothing of locking focus and recomposing) to have him/her take a photo of you. i.e. when you are on holiday or when your aunt is taking the photo.

Kids act funny when they see that you are aiming a camera at them. If you just snap when talking and looking at them, you will get more natural shots. I think FD can be useful in such situations since you don't have the luxury of "aiming".

I have to agree with you on that one.

Never been to a forum where the irritant is the mod...and yes it occurs only in Fuji.
