i notice you posted a few highly generalised threads on lens recommendation that is affordable and all-round. however, affortable and all round is subjective. i understand how newbie post becos they dun have an idea. what you can however do is to post what you think you are likely to shoot and what you can give up in the meanwhile.
start small. learn slowly. upgrade as you know better.
holiday shooting depends greatly on how much weight you carry, what you expect to shoot, and whether you are comfortable with carrying around (e.g. tripod and large size DSLR). if you are confirmed on bringing a DSLR, then think how many lens can you afford to bring in terms of weight and whether you will change lens.

start by asking what focal length range you will need by posting what you are likely to shoot
decide if you need low light capability, then if f/2.8 max aperture is needed, but it is ex
once range and aperture decided, give a budget and ask what is recommended in that area
and if you find that you know too little or are still unfamiliar with the focal length range or are still very confused abt the purchase, maybe hold off your upgrade first and wait till you feel ready to upgrade.
