Hi fellow csers, I just want some opinion from you guys. Lately, a new member (coolguysg) posted a thread for his one month old Canon 60D body at $1250.00. I was actually keen to purchase his camera, and ask for the lowest price, and he replied to me it will be $1200.00. After checking with various shops, I found out that a brand new 60D body is only $1310.00, so I ask him if we can deal at $1170.00 and his remarks to me is that I am low balling him??? Honestly guys, basing on this scenerio and situations, am I low balling this seller? I was merely asking a further of $30.00 discount from his last offer, taking into considerations a new set is only $1310.00. Just want some opinions, hope you guys can give a genuine comments on this. Thanks!

If his/her intention is to sell at this amount. and you offer something lower.. many times they might say u are low-balling because you are not giving the amount they intended to sell.. take it with a pinch of salt. If no room to negotiate and you are not happy. You can always look away.

To me it's not low balling, it's just bargaining to the best interest in a buyer prospect..

Even when I go to shop and buy stuffs I'll also bargain a bit.. Who don't wan to have cheaper price in this world..

Though this is quite a good offer considering it is a one month old 60d, $30 dont think can consider as low ball, you just trying or pushing luck, but dont think can consider as low ball.

low ball meaning pushing the price way under the market rate. eg. $900-1000

thanks guys for the fair comments, sincerely appreciate all of you who commented.....! Have a great weekend!

$30 out of $12** is not considered lowballing...but $30 out of $50 is probably is.

$30 out of $50 is not called low ball, i think its called no ball

You mention that :

Brand new : $1310.00

His original price : $1250.00 ( $60 off )

You keen to buy , he drop his price even further : $1200.00 ( Already discount $110 )

But You asking price : $1170.00

I think YES ... You are low ballers ....

Wow so good ar .. use camera for 1 month can sell off with only a loss of $110 .... no need to rent camera liao .... can just buy from shop , use for one month and den sell off , den buy new camera ... every month gets to fondle new equipment ...

I would consider it lowballing if the buyer put the price at say $1250, and someone message him, "Can sell at $1000?"

I have actually encountered such people before and most of the time i don't even bother to reply them.

Asking for 10% ($140) off a brand new set for a secondhand set isn't very much unreasonable.

For $140 off though, I might as well get a new set covered by local warranty.

Aye, I feel the same way too :bsmilie:

I'm sure the buyer is someone that look for " what's value for my money " ;

$1170.00 and still got 11 mths warranty ( good value ) .... the questions is will he buy if someone offer him same price ($1170.00) but with no warranty .....

this is nothing. best one is buy 2nd hand, use for a week, sell at the same or a bit more .

I do not think you low ball him.

I actually think you gave him a good offer.

CSer sometimes mistakenly treat their camera items value like gold, infallible and valuable - BUT in reality its a piece of electronic product that is constantly depreciating at high speed.

most price r base on similar WTS in the forum(including me).

Seller want to cut down on the loss
Buyer want to get the best price.

was looking at these 2 lens recently and notice many r selling 2nd hand (no warranty) at these price
tokina = $800
canon 10-22 = $900

New with warranty
Tokina : $900 with 2 yrs warranty
canon 10-22 : ard $1060 1 yr warranty

so for me, i'll go for new instead. not worth it at all getting 2nd hand

Thanks guys for your fair comments, to me the words "Low Ball" is very offensive especially when you are not. The morale on this topic is: Please don't say people low ball when, in actual fact, they are not!!! Hey you know what, that seller text me and threaten to report this matter to the police??? LOL... Wow!!!

tell him to go ahead.

"Lowballing"

"Lowballer"

are derogatory terms INTENTIONALLY meant to insult another person.

It is psychological warfare waged by SELLERS against prospective BUYERS.
It is meant to deter you from offering a price that is not in accordance with what the respective SELLER thinks his equipment is worth.

The best test is to ask prospective sellers whether they prefer that CS close the Marketplace, so they can go and sell to the second hand shops e.g. in Peninsula.

When the seller changes role and wants to buy something from another, he in turn may offer low prices to try and secure the best deal.

I think cheapskating is the better word than low balling for this case hehe. Different people different opinion and different perspective.
