The magical Mogopod

Didn't think much of this product until a friend let me play with one. Still baffled by how fast this thing deploys.
The pull is applied to the middle segment of the pod but the bottom segment magically extends. It's effortless!
To see what I mean watch 0:40 of this video:

hmm... good recommendation. I was struggling w my monopod recently. But its kept size looks longer than the average leh.

It is! But there is a mini version. The long one is $150 from Artphoto at Funan.

Borrowed an older version (possibly mMkII) from my friend for a day. Found the tripod at the base to be too filmsy. I haven't used the markIII as shown in the video. But the MkII's tripod requires a hexagon key set to remove. Be sure to choose the Mk III (shown in video) because it looks like it has a reversible design with easy screw off tripod.

I bought one and used it for a couple of event-type video shoots so far. The tripod legs of Mk3 are screw-in type which has its pros and cons. Pro - easy to take off which is also its con as it comes loose quite easily so you have to keep tightening it once in a while. The tripod legs has a better spread than the popular Manfrotto video monopod which gives a bit more peace of mind but it isn't able to swivel and rotate which the Manfrotto legs can. The thing I like is its single twist lock which was the primary reason for not choosing the Manfrotto. Its also quite a bit lighter but therein lies its weakness as well. The single-joint twist lock has some play even when locked which is not so suitable for video. I like the fact you can use it as boom pole too although I have yet to try it. Verdict - if you need fast set up and versatility, this one is good but for more heavy duty work, the Manfrotto will do a better job.

Wow! Thanks for the review! Certainly something to take note. Haha
