Testing 70-200 F2.8 with Canon 1.4x TC

Okay went to the zoo to test out the TC. Below are some sample shots.
All at F4, 1/200sec ISO800

The "Family portrait": 217mm

The "Stare": 280mm

The "After meal routine": 195mm

Conclusion : I am quite happy with the quality. Now I can skip the 300mm range kind of lens.

yup... its even worse with 2x... anyway, though slower but still fast enough in most cases...

Have you tried the 2X TC before? I wonder how much effect it has on the image quality. I find the CA on the 1.4x not very noticiable.

i've not tried canon's one... but i've used the sigma's 2x on sigma 70-200........ its was horribly slow... but then again, it was tested indoors... outdoors, the focusing is much better but can still feel the sluggishness...

Pretty good quality after TC. So it is f5.6 (since stop down from f4)? Oppss.. now one more toy to buy buy buy :sweat:

I'm very happy with EF70-200f2.8L+Tamron 1.4, it's even better than EF70-200f4L+Tamron 1.4. I've tried with Kenko 2, it sucks with every lens i have in terms of auto-focussing and image quality.

maybe its the lenses you've got. no offence, but 95% of lenses don't take a 2x TC well.

hmmm with a f/2.8 lens and 2xTC, you'll still have AF with any current Canon bodies ..... I'm tempted to try as well on my 70-200 f/2.8 ....

some pro told me to get the latest batch of Canon 2X TC if you really need. Code UUxxxx and later. I too had some shot taken with the Canon 70-200f2.8 + 1.4X TC. photos are still in my cards, not processed yet. should be ok in my opinion.

Oh yah is the F4 with TC that gives the problem

Used my 2.8L with 2X TC many years back, till i saw range images shot by my 400f5.6L wide open...

I practically threw the TC away.

Still.. images seems still reasonable with the 1.4X :thumbsup:

care to show some 100% crop not processed? :think:
